Bought this from Canadian Tire yesterday, will make swapping tires much easier
Careful with that thing. It does 240ft-lbs, that's like 3x more than some smaller cars require. I have one and I don't know if I will ever use mine again. I have been using mine for 5 years or so happily, until last year when I went to remove the rear tire on my wife's car. Undoing the bolts...i snapped 4 out of 5 of them! They were rusted and I should have sprayed them with WD40, but needless to say, replacing 4 bolts on a Sunday afternoon was not very fun, luckily Canadian tire was still open and had the bolts I need and I was able to slide them in without disassembling the hub.

Since them....I just use my manual torque wrench.

I didn't even hold it there for a long time or anything, i normally do a quick two clucks and move on to the next, but must have stressed the bolts over time and it finally snapped.

thanks for the heads up, yeah i will be using primarily to speed up putting/removing the bolts, will be using a manual torque wrench for the initial/final lock.

Instructions unclear. Now I have a breaker bar in my underwear. How should I proceed?

Wait - who the FUCK installs and tightens lug nuts with an impact gun?!¿!!?¡? That's some fuckin FULL RETARD kind of shit. Like, Wal-Mart Tire & Lube kind of shit.
    Remove = impact.
Install = start threads by hand and then MAYBE gain a few turns with impact
Torque = Torque. Mother. Fucking. Wrench. Period.

    Is this a car forum?

Last year costco broke one of my wheel studs off and said something like, you should talk to whoever put your wheels on last. It was me. By hand.....
Can't you tighten them (finish with wrench) with those torque sticks though?

I had that Canadian Tire impact a long time ago and found it quite useless. I use a Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1/2" that removes the nuts pretty quickly. It's overkill for tire removal but it does the job really well. I have never broken a nut or bolt with it, but some of the cheaper bolts can be a bit soft.

Never use your torque wrench to remove nuts. Use a breaker bar but make sure you slide your penis out of the way first.

What's wrong with removing them using an impact gun? I've been using an impact gun to remove for about 5 years now (3 vehicles, twice a year) and never had a problem. Is it because there would be more chance of issues if bolts are seized?

I'm reading this as "I shouldn't have used the impact gun to INSTALL my bolts because it over-tightened them and stressed them out so that a future removal snapped them off."

I think Sabad (and probably me) are saying "either impact gun or giant, sniped breaker bar will still snap your bolts during removal if someone did them up to over triple what they should've been tightened to."

    Agree?

Have you ever broken a stud with your human torque strength?

My dad used to use a 2ft long bar and step on it (full body weight) to "make sure the studs were on tight"
One year he snapped 2 of them before his mechanic told him to stop that

    math: 170lb man x 2ft = 340ft-lb

    Could be right.

Yes. I snapped one off that was galled on my STI.

And I agree with some of the others, if a stud is galled or breaks at the time of removal it was already NFG. I don't see any issue using an impact gun to remove lug nuts, I also don't see any issue using a torque stick and impact gun to tighten them but I could be wrong.

Personally, I crack everything loose with a breaker bar simply because my compressor and impact gun aren't powerful enough.
    I like neat cars.

^ hahaha, so true , bunch of nut jobs

    to sum up:

    - impact deez nuts off
    - use a breaker bar (with 'calibrated' eblow torque, oops i mean elbow) or torque wrench to install

During removal is what I meant...over torquing can definitely happen while tightening, but I've never heard of breaking while using a breaker bar to loosen them.

I think most people think 100ft lbs is a lot of torque and it’s tires so they go overkill cause nobody wants a tire falling off while driving. I have a 18” breaker bar and torque wrench and it doesn’t take much effort to put on or take off if torqued correctly.
