Oh man, you need a bungalow in a very established community. I get where you're at, most front drive homes are a soulless wall with huge garage doors facing the street and the problem is that in many of these enclaves, the homeowners come home, drive into their front drive garage and disappear into their home with absolutely no interaction with their neighbors.

Now I'm not saying this is absolutely the norm but it is very common place and why I chose the word enclave above instead of community. Now regular homes with front drive garages can be attractive if quality garage doors are used but that is not the norm either and still doesn't address th pe enclave issue.

Undrives, well that's a whole other issue - they are not attractive by any means IMO. IF you like the look of a sea of concrete then move into the core into a condo. In those blocks where there's multiple unidrives side by side, what exactly do they do with all of the snow during the winter?

Btw, 1955 bungalow here with a rear drive double garage - most of the block is rear drive garages and the new infills are rear drive garages as well. A lot of the homeowners park a vehicle or two out front and are always interacting with neighbors - we like that but many don't.

Back to unidrives, I believe the discussion is around why - why do homeowners not want a bit of greenery?

I’m on board with your entire post.

But to answer this one, people are lazy AF and don’t want to take care of it. Whether that be paying someone to do it or doing the work themselves.

Rear garage homes force people to interact with their neighbors.... that's a new one! haha

I've lived in both. And the layouts and natural light in a rear detached garage home is nice but holy crap dealing with a rear lane (especially if its unpaved) is literally the worst.

But do you have a front attached garage, rear detached garage, and a pool?

RV parking makes up for it. Nice spot. Cheap too.

Front drives are trash, but RV parking isn’t?

Front driveway is fine, so long as the house is large enough that you can actually see the house. Unlike this place with zero curb appeal.

But that would be great curb appeal for a lot of home owners.

We went through the city planning committee, bylaw and a mentally challenged neighbour (who kept calling B/L) when dealing with this.

    - lot width matters (at front), if your lot is over a certain number of metres (14.5m I think?) then you can unidriveway concrete your house (we had this option).
    - newer areas have slightly different laws then older areas
    - you can throw down gravel or paving pads as the B/L states parking is not allowed over GRASS (this is what we did, gravel and concrete pads). Neighbour down the road just has concrete pads.

It was. I think it's pending at the moment. Im surprised so many of you like it. There's far better looking triple garage homes around.

    The trifecta has to be

    1) garage full of junk and no room for car(s)
    2) DIY widened driveway
    3) RV on the front driveway

There's also never just one house that's like this. Usually several in a row.
