And depending on what type of work a person does, data security and international data transfer/access can present a major issue too (or so I’ve heard).
Could someone not just log into their home network and then remote into work via that?

Yes. People are overblowing the whole security issue when WFH. A managed corporate device with an appropriately configured VPN is just as secure. We also like to think we are more important than we actually are. China doesn't give a shit about my correspondence and things like ransom ware or other threats come from other places regardless of the local network.

VPN with Canadian city jump points also worked. At least from geoblocking standpoint.

But VPN should only be on company asset and depends on company, company asset are not suppose to leave the country. One major in town used to give out sanitized laptops for anyone that need to travel to US because they don't want anything accidentally captured by US customs.

Basically the same shit Huawei CFO went thru.

Lol that is funny... if the US wants anything off your laptop Canada will hand it to them with a pink bow on it, it makes no difference the physical location of the laptop.

All the cloud services that most companies use all route through the US, so they have all the data anyway...

No it doesn't. We deal with data residency stipulations all the time, especially Canada and EU where they don't want data to ever touch US. Cloud providers like us build our services across multiple regions to comply with data residency demands.

    1. This is a long time ago before cloud was a thing. And going thru Canadian legal process vs agent just grabbing it at the border is totally different process.

    2. They can't grab cloud data legally. Illegally, they may already have all the data.

we give santized devices for travel, not typically to the US, but to more high risk countries. But also it's basically up to the user to inform us they are travelling and need it, we usually tell them to leave their perm laptop online in the office, and then remote in via the sanitized device to avoid anything being stored locally... although I am sure many do not follow those directions.

I assume anyone wfh at this point is a wannabe civil servant or is backed by a union.
Our company has 50 desk spaces and 80 people working out of Calgary. We HAVE to work from home unless we want to upgrade. Which we don't. I came into the office today just for shits and giggles. There are 3 people here.

    6) Spending half my day on Beyond counts as work because I do it on a work PC/laptop.
100%, laughing at the replies at 7,8,9am of people bitching about dog fucking working from home. (As I say from my work computer AT THE OFFICE).

Do not collect CERB, do not collect EI. Hope that $2k was worth the pension disappearing.

Wouldn't be too hard to figure it out eventually. Just takes time.

Government should implement a statement saying if you repay it back yourself, you'll only be charged the interest owed on top. If found eventually without self repay, interest + huge fine.

    Donezo.

Sounds like @rage2 has a nice office that's always empty. Beyond WeWork edition?

I've been WFH for 5 years now. I also own the company and have no interest in a commute.

Wife works at a law firm and everyone there hates going into the office, but they have to 3 days a week. Considering everything in legal has to be on paper still, it makes sense. Can't even do half the job remotely.
I can eat more hot wings than you.
