I think it's easy to point to that but end of the day it's like walking up to a homeless guy and shout at him to stop being poor.

There is a limited talent pool and if you want more, you have to pay exponentially more (see recent nurse recruitment rate). They only way to help is not more capacity but not swamp the capacity we have and people can't even do their part on that.
Again, the government cancelling surgeries to keep staff sitting around doing nothing, does not boil down to a staffing shortage. This is mismanagement pure and simple. I realize there is a political optics factor going into these poor decisions being made, but it does not change that they are poor decisions.

The ICU is an issue because we're choosing to let the ICU be an issue.

I'm not following the situation very closely but I thought the issue was ICU beds, not staffing?

I don't know what the latest excuse they're using is? Ask Xtrema.

It's been both. The suggestion is that the real issue is who they are allowing INTO the ICU, not the capacity of the ICU, however you choose to measure that. I.E. don't allow unvaccinated to access healthcare, and boom, no healthcare issues. The system can easily handle the normal everyday healthcare needs, plus the few vaccinated who require healthcare for whatever reason.

It's probably not possible under the current Canadian system, but if it were, it would be a nearly instant solution to several problems.

Not sure what this discussion has to do with the NDP or any political party.

See and I think we should vastly narrow the age window people are allowed to vote.

    Say? 30-60?

Maybe limit it to people who own land?

Let's just balance the # of seats federally and start with that.

Exactly why the NDP are introducing the bill.

Gains and losses of seats based on even balance by population with no senatorial or grandfather clauses:

    BC +4
    AB +3
    SK -3
    MB -2
    ON +11
    QC 0
    NB -3
    NS -2
    PE -3
    NL -2

In a fitting twist, this makes PEI the most under-represented province.

Literally had this exact conversation with a co-worker yesterday.

30-60 and prove you have surplus money in your account at the end of each month.

What an absolutely psychotic view of how a democracy should be.

"Sorry sir, you can't vote this year because your spouse got laid off last month and you're putting two kids through university".

How about this, if you receive government money (hospital stay, jail, EI, CPP, OAS etc) in the last 36 months you don't get to vote.

Either way, we are heading toward dystopia anyway.

I don't agree with 16yo voting either, but having voting rights tied to income is seriously batshit.
