Anyone have their kid in the Strathcona private school?
Thoughts?
STS?
Probably the better of the private schools out there from what my wife and I have seen. Expensive though but then again they all are.

Nice to have options for private school away from that gross Aspen area.

I worked with someone who sent a few of his kids there, he had nothing but great things to say (except $$$, as it is one of the more expensive ones). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It's also human nature to justify our choices as being correct. Admitting failure is very difficult. That means there aren't any unbiased sources of information on this topic.

Pretty easy to pull your kid out if you hate the program or outcomes? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Question is, how many people pull their kids out? I imagine it’s low, That implies some level satisfaction. Even if the satisfaction is merely bragging rights for the parents.

Less bragging rights and more of a better chance at a spot in post secondary. Also making future connections. Both parents and kids.
I don’t pretend to know what these people value, but they seem ok with what they are getting for what they are paying for.
People spend money on dumber shit every day.

For the record, I do think private school is better than public school from an academic standpoint. I am not at all impressed with public school, and particularly unimpressed with the "neighborhood" public elementary schools. The high-performing teachers or administrators don't seem to last long there.

I wouldn't be surprised if more private schools actually ask kids to leave vs having parents pull them. If a child is not getting good marks, bullying, etc they will be released or told to find other education

Exactly. I was talking about this with another guy I worked with that sent his kids to Rundle, and when I asked him if he thought it was worth it his response was something to the effect of "I think so; regardless, there's worse things to waste money on than your children."This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. There's several ballers beyond.ca members who pay for private swimming lessons for their kids. I think the cost/benefit is easier to calculate for that though.

Hey I did private swimming lessons for a while. My instructor wore a one piece thong. She was 16.

STS is a serious consideration for the wife and I yea, she is really impressed with their programming but we are admittedly very far from “pulling the trigger” on any decisions yet. Who needs education when you have programming.
For STS, do you live close to the school? Just curious as there are some really good options in town and if its quite a drive, what is the reason for going there?
