Hell ya it was safe, but it would have been safer if we all parked our cars and walked!
But, if you walked, they would have to drop the limit to 30KPH...

Oh no, just close the road all together and make it a pedestrian walkway! Then all the Helen Lovejoys of the world would be happy.

Just close ALL the roads and make it foot traffic allowed only.

This thread came to mind last night on my way home. Around 9:00 PM heading Southbound on Deerfoot and a bit before Douglasdale the limit drops to 50 KM/H, runs for a while, then a short zone to 70 KM/H and then finally between Barlow & 130th it goes back up to 100 KM/H. Not a single construction anything going on, just a few cones up against the center barriers (on the shoulder). No workers, no equipment, no open work of any kind, just a giant mess for traffic for no goddamn reason.
To be fair I'm pretty sure they were doing work there a bit later last night because some of the lanes were closed after southland. Maybe it was just your timing of going through? But yes there are some times where it seems ridiculous to slow for nothing but who knows what they are planning a few minutes/hour after you go through.

My understanding is that those lane closures are time-based and the signage is only permitted during construction permit hours given by the province/city roads.

My turn to add to the bitching... The construction zone at blackfoot/heritage is terrible for speed signage when you go northbound blackfoot. Half the time they seem to forget the 60 zone signs up the road, or only lower one but not the other. That's pretty much like that all the time unless they are actually working on the site at which time both signs are up. No "end of construction" signs though even when they are working.

I think the companies/city needs to put 2 signs on both sides of the road if it has 3+ lanes - not sure on the regulations on that though.

    So this part ...

The actual number of tickets issued in zones where workers were present is significantly lower, according to the corrected data, coming in at 10,443 — just shy of 26,000 tickets fewer than originally reported.
Are they actually saying that heaven forbid we do abide by the rules DURING construction when workers are present?

    LOL dumbasses.

    Also...

Construction zone speed limit signage is put out by City of Calgary staff and the limits are then enforced by Calgary police.

    Calgary’s default speed limit is 50 km/h.

So actual percentage of tickets given where workers were actually present was only 13.7%, meaning 86.3% of those tickets were off hour speed traps. Got it.

Well considering the City setups up the speeds, and the City enforces it... it makes sense for them to fudge numbers too doesn't it?

Whatever gets more money for the police budget and puts fear into the citizens that the city is unsafe.

Jesus people... we're talking about construction zones with serious safety issues and people bitch and moan that cops are doing their jobs? Can you blame cops for hitting areas that have obscene amounts of traffic infractions with safety considerations? Construction workers get killed every year in construction sites because people simply cant slow down or drive unsafely.

How about Calgary drivers take responsibility for their shitty driving habits and actually follow the law instead of bitch and moan at the people who are getting paid to enforce it. I'm sure the instruction workers and their families appreciate the work they do.

shuuuuuuuut-upppppp, we aren't talking about MEN AT WORK, the issue is tagging us at 3am when the only thing in the construction zone is bacon FFS delete that post
