Have any of you guys tried out the new X-Ice Snows or Vikings 7's?
Looking for a new set for my parents vehicle and those are the two I've narrowed down to for a studless ice/snow tire.

I'm a XI3 fan so I'm personally leaning towards the Snow but the Vikings are a bit more budget friendly. Opinions/thoughts would be appreciated.
You are totally comparing apples to apples there and I would not even remotely want to suggest one is a better product than the other overall. If it was me and those were the two options, I am going to buy whichever one is the better value, but if you are willing to spend more money own it just for the sake of brand preference, you are not getting a bad tire for sure in the Michelin. Just spending more money for no real reason other than it makes you feel better about it.

Second season on the vikings and I am pretty happy. Review very well from the nordic reviews as well. Would be interested in seeing what the new michelins can do though.

So far I havent had any issues with my Federal Himalaya Inverno K1. Wish I had gotten them studded though. Then I can be unstoppable. They drive alot better than when my Pathfinder was on GT Radial Champiro IcePros studded.

The new Michelins didn't do very well in this year's Norwegian Automobile Federation test:

    2) 80 points – Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3

Wish I could review them but the Viking 7's ended up being $200 less than the X-Ice Snows so that's what we ended up going with.

Do you guys know why the sipes on the Michelin's go all the way down the full tread depth while the Blizzaks (WS90's) and the Viking 7's only slit down the top 1/3 of the tread depth? Do they automatically "rip" deeper into the tread as they wear?
I never noticed this before until I looked at them close up side by side.

The new X-Ice Snows look very similar to the Xi3's and what I remember about my Xi3's is that they sucked in deep snow, but were hard to beat for stopping distance on cold pavement, packed snow, or ice. That's why I always bought them as that is where I would be most likely to get into an at-fault accident. They also retained most of their performance at 50% tread. Looks like the "snow" variant lost points for wet braking and cornering which seems to be an OK trade-off since neither of those are overly important for winter driving compared to where it excels.

Directly affects tire stability and squirm.

Usually at a cost of performance. Some winter tires you'll feel the back of the car go back and forth slightly going down the road in a straight line.

Just depends on what you need.

Sure but....there's just no more sipes after the top third?

Well I'll be damned. Nexen beat out Michelin and Bridgestone

I am a huge Continental fan. Viking 7 is a super solid choice! I have yet to hear something negative yet.

I just picked up a set of the studded icecontact....super impressed so far

They put far too much emphasis on wet and dry performance.

Bought a new set of winter tires and rims online, anyone know a good spot/site to buy TPMS sensors?

Also The Rural Juror disappeared?, seeing him being last post made me think I haven't seen him post in a good while
