Diff repairs

Any recommendations on where to get my pinion bearing replaced on my differential? Either a shop or private. It's off of a 90's BMW. Most places I've called refused to work on it or wanted to charge an arm and a leg for it when I said it's a BMW diff.

Out of curiosity, how much were you quoted for the pinion job?

I've used Mikes Auto Haus in Airdrie for audi work in the past... not BMW specific but maybe worth a shot?

Another buddy swore by Sheni's Auto Trend as well for his M3

That's no too far out of line for pinion bearing replacement on an IRS car IMO. It's a time-intensive procedure and you end up replacing a bunch of seals, crush sleeve, etc and they may be quoting doing the carrier bearings while they were in there. $200 worth of parts (heavily marked up of course) plus 4 hours of labour at $125/h is about what I'd expect.

Which model is it? Is it an LSD? Have you considered getting a good used diff? I found a good used rear diff off eBay for my audi couple years back. 30k on it, $50 shipped to sweetgrass.

I have all the parts already, was going to do it myself but find I don't have the time I used to have. Diff is off the car also.

The diff is from a '95 M3

If it is out of the car have you tried calling Pat's Driveline on Blackfoot?

Rebuilding a loose diff is much easier then removing it from the car. Should be much cheaper then what you were quoted.

So piggybacking on this. Considering installing a LSD in my fiesta, any recommended transmission shops? Forum says its about a 10-12 hour job for a shop with most of that just removing the tranny.
