    Default Hong Kong Stimulus Payout

I dont know why the Hong Kong Media did this, but basically they put out a new release saying anyone with a valid HKID can get this $10,000 HKD stimulus meant to be spent in HK. Anyway my MIL caught wind of it and now I have to go down the rabbit hole of getting HSBC to open up a international account in HK in order to get this roughly $1700 CAD payout from the HK govt. Im really hoping I will get through to them on the phone and they will tell me to get fucked since I think its BS that she should even be getting it.

Any other beyonders claiming this? all you need is a valid HKID card and a hong kong bank account.

Let me know how it goes. I’m thinking of doing this as well. Put my HK citizenship to good use haha. Good thing I got my HKID 10 years ago.

Dont even need a bank account, you can pick them up from the post office if you're going there. Otherwise China Bank used to be able to open a HK account at a locate branch here in Canada.

No different than the cheque a few years ago.

This sounds like a tax nightmare. The Hongkong one sounds like a CCP trap.

After waiting on hold with HSBC for 5 hours I got disconnected and then my MIL said she didn’t want it anymore if it was going to take months to get an account and also she wants to change from HSBC Canada because she believes they are a CCP trap

Not worth the hassle IMO. But I don't see how this is a trap. It's no different than CERB, it's to stimulate the economy.

The government said any personal information used in the registration process would only be kept and used for future similar handout schemes.
“We will set out clearly in the registration form, saying the personal data we collected for this scheme will also be used for similar schemes in the future,” Jessie Wong, from the Financial Secretary’s Office, said.
    It's a trap.

Isn't every institution and program in China part of a CCP trap? And these days, HK IS China.

Eligible people can choose to register through their bank’s website or online banking services starting from June 21, providing the first 4 digits of their ID card, local contact number and bank account number. Payment will then be deposited into the account beginning July 8.

Alternatively, people can submit a paper registration to their bank or to the post office. Forms can be downloaded from the websites of participating banks or collected from post office branches and public housing estate offices.

Man, when they first gave out the HK5000, I opened up an account and that was a hassle.

HSBC had a whole process for people who wanted to get that money taken out for a period of time, which I missed.

I ended up leaving that money sitting in there until I went back to Hong Kong in Sept 2018

I'm not going through that again for $1700.
