It's the Waiparous Falls trail (aka TransAlta Trail). Usually a very easy trail midwinter but it was surprisingly challenging when me and a couple of guys took our shitboxes out there yesterday. Blowing snow made some massive drifts and there were a bunch of stock Toyotas on street tires out there being trail tampons so we had to bypass some areas. The big river crossing is dead easy when it's iced over, but the middle has melted and it's a 15" sheer ice face on one side. Getting down is easy, getting back up required 35s or lockers with a good approach angle. One guy in a 3500 Dodge couldn't even get his tires on the ledge before his bumper was hitting the ice, the guy had to go wading in the freezing river stacking rocks so he could be winched out. The trail is probably best avoided until next year for most vehicles - it used to be open year-round but is winter only now due to concerns about the Waiparous Creek crossing.

Haha, yeah "trail tampon" is someone who gets stuck for a long time blocking the whole trail leading to a traffic jam behind them.

Eh some folks were Googling it and Google won't return much for that phrase outside of KoH stuff.

Yeah just a combination of conditions and time of year. We'll get you out next winter when things are nice and frozen, this year was iffy due to mild temps.

I just assumed it was a term for any jackass on a trail that doesn't belong there, like a noob or something, but this is even better haha

I'd even be up for a ride along just to see what it's like. I don't think I'd fair very well on stock all-seasons. That's only for city winters

I cannot express how happy I am that somebody noticed that. I was cracking up at how perfectly the dog posed behind the wheel.

Malibu is getting taken by one of those groups talked about previously on the forum.

If anyone wants a chance at winning it, shoot me a pm and I'll get you lined up with the group involved. (I'm completely hands off other than getting the word out.)
