In general I'm supportive of Quebec increasing all forms of taxation.

Easier just to bill the unvaxxed for their covid related hospital stay. I'm a fan of this model - should do the same for obesity, smokers, etc.

    This is a great idea.

Except we should do that for everyone, and let private insurance companies handle it all and decide how vaccination status affects premiums.

Pretty sure the idea is to get more vaccinations by implementing the tax. When you charge someone for a hospital stay, it's too late, they are using up resources. The key here it to PREVENT use of healthcare resources in the first place.

Yes this should apply to fatties, with smokers you should just increase cig tax AND charge them for care that's related to tobacco.

Junk diet has a cost but they don't all show up in 2-4 weeks out of the blue that cause huge shortage and inflation and it could also be managed with tons of known drugs over long period of time.

But I don't oppose to a sugar tax at this point and potentially sat/unsat fat tax later on based on more info on heart health/Alzheimer impacts.

Veggies is only good in unprocessed form. Those Beyond/Impossible substitutes are worse than real meat.

You'll need to smoke a lot to cover of a $500k lung transplant or cancer treatments. Should just tax more and bill them for healthcare.

You can eat that shit in moderation without clogging your arteries. A couple drinks a week won't kill anyone either. Personal choices in overconsumption have consequences.

I'm starting to like this private healthcare system idea, kinda like discounts on your driver insurance for no at-fault accidents.

Momma always said "Life is like a box of chocolates, it doesn't last as long for fat people.".

    Also, fuck supporting any taxation.

Are you guys assuming that your taxes would actually go down if we brought private healthcare in?

Well the only way that would happen is if we turf the liberals.

well first off a 100 people a day dont show up for lung transplants... two on smoking if the stat that was posted is current, we hundreds of millions in the black from smokers. but smoking one pack of cigs does not = a 500K lung transplant but you pay the tax on every pack... so there goes your over consumption argument.

Probably not but I want this so when government faces spending increase it can be offloaded:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Singapore

All I want is for citizens to have skin in the game unlike status quo.

Who knows, may be we can even build a medical tourism sector out of it and add some GDP.

Really, our education system is already going this route by charging foreign students to subsidize locals. May as well start looking at medical as well.

Well the government never gives anything back. But in the event they reimbursed me the the $50,000/yr I currently pay for health care, I feel pretty confident I could get better health coverage for less money.

Base on AHS budget, you are only entitled to $1700/yr.

I'm a Canadian citizen. I'm "entitled" to whatever care I require. What are you talking about?

You bought insurance, you didn't pay for the service. Other people who don't need the services paid for you.

If AHS budget is purely funded by AB tax payer, your share is around $1700-$2000/yr depends on the year. If there is private option, you can shop around insurance on that.

It's like me calling car insurance is a scam because I have been paying 30+ years and only collected $6K.
