I’ve had a 07gti which I loved, then I switched to a rs4 which I loved even more. Now I have a 16 golf r and I’m not in love, maybe i will miss it when it’s gone.

Can't afford the R but the GTi at 1.99% is enticing

Get into a 5door base DSG for under $400 a month. No options needed I'll just pay attention when driving and save 1750 on the drivers aid stuff lol
I priced out a 2018 GTI with and without DAP. The DAP GTI ends up being $6 more per month if you account for the discount from insurance.

Also, what's with the lowercase "i" in GTI? People don't say CRv, WRx or AMg, right?

I was always under the impression that it was spelled GTi and not GTI

Does it bother you, bro? lol

Isn't your custom user title "STi" not "STI"

You're right, STi was the way Subaru spelled it when I got the custom user title in 2004 but they changed it in 2006 to STI.

Subaru Tekunika Intānashonaru Kabushiki-gaisha)[1] , or STI (prior to 2006, STi)

However, the GTI has always had a capital "I" going back to the MK1 GTI

Im sure the GTi/GTI is great. But man the R is a real treat in this snow. It handles so good. Id say its worth the extra money.

Going to go FBO on my R when this snow goes away. Going to be sweet.

I will have a Haldex tune ready to go soon!
Just curious. The Golf R is physically only able to do a 50/50 split... So is this tune basically just going to make the haldex come into play more readily? Post some more info when you have it please.

What are you guy getting Golf R's out the door for? Either total cash/finance price or monthly lease payments.

I can't rememeber what my 2018 was out the door, I'd have to look at my invoice.. But I recall speaking with one VW salesman and essentially said the mark up is $4k, and can realistically bargain within that range. Not sure how accurate that can be... But just what he said.

Haha. Ya I guess so. But different classes of vehicle. I wouldn't even put the R in the same class as the 45

The 16/17 R's were around $550-600 on lease. The 18's went up in price so $600-650. 48/20, $0 down. For comparison's sake, the base 18 GTI is $350-400.

Majorly: keeps the 50/50 torque spilt after you upgrade engine torque. Stock haldex is torque limited such that it 'stops' where stock peak torque is.

That's unfortunate. I'd love to move into an R, but I can't justify over 500/month on lease.

Yup. $400 is a steal for the GTI haha Best bang for the buck

If you want a GTI with any options though, they are just a little too close to the price of an R IMHO and over $40K you start to see lots of other options open up.

A GTI Autobahn with driver assistance is $40,817 before tax. A Golf R is only $46,787 for the same w/driver's assistance. $6K for way more power, updated 7spd DSG, AWD, and all the other perks is a no-brainer IMHO, that's a bargain. For some that will be a deal breaker but for a lot of people it's probably an easy jump (works out to around $100/mo more if financed, probably a lot less if leased).

Also you can get something like a Q50 Red Sport for only $47K, which I would probably take over a Golf R and I would definitely spend the extra over a GTI. A well equipped (but not loaded) S3 is $49K + GST as well.

I think if GTI's with competitive options to the economy cars (driver assistance, android auto, autonomous cruise, premium stereo, lane keep, etc.) were ~$35K that would be about perfect. $10-11K is too much of a premium for the 2.0T and DSG IMO. $35K would still be a significant premium above the Civics and similar for the DSG and 2.0T, but not quite into $40K+ luxury car territory.

Looks like they got rid of the 3-door model? Anyways the cheapest 6MT GTI right now appears to be $32,367 + tax.

For me anyway, I've always found the GTIs just slightly too expensive, as nice as they are.

But you can always play the 'only a couple thousand more' upgrade from one car to the next game. Haha.

    $40k GTI --> $46k Golf R --> $47k Q50 Red --> $49k S3

Bam, you've just spent 25% more on a car
