Both. This particular one was wireless on iPad.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I'm struggling to get more than 190 on wireless, using a mesh network (Samsung Connect Home), even sitting next to the primary hub, using 5ghz. Wired however...

That's what you get for using a wireless mesh network. Your speed drops 50% every additional hop from the wired AP on a wireless mesh.

That wasn't the issue. I got the same speed sitting next to the wired AP, as I did next to one of the secondary hubs. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also, it was on sale, and my RT-AC66u wasn't doing me many favours in the basement, when I was on the top floor.

Rage nailed it on the mesh network.
Does that system have a wired backhaul option? Mesh systems are more for huge houses that have signal issues and not for power users with through put needs. I mentioned in another thread that I went with 5 different mesh systems before ditching them and moving to an Asus 5300 ROG. No mesh system I found (other then a non consumer option) was able to keep up with 3 4K UHD streams simultaneously.

How big are your guys' houses that you need mesh? In my experience a good router can easily cover 3000-3500 SqFt or so of living space with max or close to max speeds everywhere under normal circumstances.

2000sqft above ground. Issues were at the extremes. Router is placed in the basement at the back of the house, due to modem/coax placement, was having issues on the top floor in the master, and in the garage.
I picked up the Samsung Connect Home 3-pack that Lowes was clearing out.

Probably haha. My sample size is limited but I can max out internet speeds pretty much anywhere in the ~3000 sq ft houses I have tested for fun within my friends/family who have single (good) router setups. Garage / back yards have a noticeable drop but still very fast. So personally I just haven't seen a scenario where mesh would be required. If people with normal sized houses are having WiFi issues, I would guess something else is going on (high interference or something else). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Not sure why all you ballers don't buy into Ubiquiti hardware for wireless... those things have some serious broadcasting power.

It's has nothing to do with power. In fact, in a proper Ubiquiti setup, your power levels should be lower than default. Long story short, even if the AP can blast huge amounts of power, your cell phone still can't connect because the AP can't hear your cell phone which broadcasts at the minimum possible power to preserve battery life. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Oh I know... I'm just saying that higher quality gear usually allows a better spread of a wifi signal so that your not having such huge dead spots. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Im running a Pfsense box and a couple of old ASUS WAPs but am definitely thinking about going with the Unifi AP down the road in our 3 level house. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well... FML there's an error provisioning the XB6 modem to my account and it probably won't be fixed till monday.
She said she was having trouble so wait 15 minutes before hooking it up and she'd call if there was going to be a problem.
I waited 25, plugged it in and Ring!!! Can't fix it, have to escalate it which will take 24 or more hours. Had to go back and pick up my Hitron...
I've never used one so I don't know! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Cost more/less than a high end WiFi router. Add a wired router and you're flying!

We are talking about unifi, not amplifi, right? For ubiquity hardware.

They seem a little more expensive now then when I got mine, but I'm sure they go on sale for $105 or so every now and then.

Paid $180 for a 3-pack of mesh routers. Cheapest I see the lite is for $110 on newegg Canada (+$10 shipping). I'm not sure the lite could hit my whole house, and I've already spent the money on the 3-pack.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I also can't run ethernet everywhere to run additional AP's, without hiring someone to run it for me (old build), which is even more money.
