I always thought of it as more of an inferiority complex about our neighbours being the most powerful country in the world and not being able to measure up in basically any way (aside from average citizen weight). General reaction I get from many Canadians when a comparison is drawn is “well at least we aren’t Americans” like their response doesn’t drip with self consciousness
Canadians also have this weird impression that anyone outside of Canada cares what we do in Canada. It's this totally misplaced national narcissism.

You're mostly correct except everyone in the world has been convinced Alberta'sOil Sands are the devil. Canadian leadership made it very easy for them.

The way many Albertans think of China is how a lot of the world thinks of Alberta and the Oil Sands (most people wouldn't know there is Albertan oil that doesn't come from the tar sands). I'd even venture that more people under 30 have heard of Fort McMurray than Calgary (older than 30 they'd know of Calgary from the Olympics).

Basically, a global saloon trick to divert attention away from domestic pollution where Canada just sat in the corner and allowed itself to be abused.

Recent news story makes me realize I'd be fine if Rakhi Pancholi criticized me about children or whatever...

This is who Notley thinks should represent us in Ottawa. How about you?

She must be good because Kenney gave the whole province Rona and he's bad.

My stepdad's pacemaker has been postponed for 18 months. He's experienced issues with low blood pressure because of it, and passed out and smashed his head. They're trying to get it moved up.
My brothers open heart surgery was delayed a couple times during the 3rd wave due to lack of ICU beds as far as such surgeries go it was routine and some what expected still resulted in him being in much rougher shape before and after in got done compared to previous times.

Fiancée's grandpa's exploratory cancer surgery was delayed a couple times more recently, it got done but held back the treatment plan a couple months which will no doubt impact the severity and survivability of his cancer.

So serious surgeries seem to be happening but the delays are having life altering impacts on people

I think it's about time that unvaccinated need to pay for healthcare for any COVID-related hospitalizations...

Really we should've just had a tax on BF% decades ago.

There's a big difference between people who eat for convenience, drink too much, are addicted to smoking, participate in extreme sports, etc. than those who refuse to take 1 hour out of their day to receive a FREE vaccine because of political views.

Don’t we already have sugar taxes on pop? BF% doesn’t delay your surgery or clog your ICU. The biggest issue overall is Covid patients who become hospitalized take too long to die with modern medicine.

I checked, 338 hasn't released any update since October 24. Can't wait for polling season!

That and they infect others so one person can exponentially clog up ICU beds through transmission to others (yes, vaccinated can still be infected but probabilities of spread and hospitalization are much reduced).

A better analogy than BF% is drunk driving - I don't really give a damn if you kill yourself by drunk driving but it's the cost to society and killing of others that has made society put severe restrictions on it. To me, unvaccinated are no different - I don't care if they die, it's the cost to society and killing of others that bothers me.

Bringing it back to this thread, f the UCP doesn't get COVID under control so that services can operate again without significant restrictions, the NDP will certainly sustain their popularity.

Lol if you think the NDP would have managed Covid better than Kenney.

Covid is an absolute political nightmare unless your plan is to throw money blindly at people.

Covid has literally become a multiple billion $ industry. It's going to remain at the forefront of the news cycle for as long as possible to keep the gravy train going.

There sure is. Fat people are more likely to end up in the hospital............ by a large margin.

No we don't. Sin tax on cigarettes and booze though. Find out how much of that money has been directed to healthcare capacities though.

So offloading like 90% of the healthcare system wouldn't get me in for routine stuff or surgeries any quicker? That sounds rather counter intuitive.

And there's definitely no societal cost to being fat. As long as you exclude the majority of our healthcare spending. The irony here is that if everyone cared about their health a little bit, the collateral damage from covid would be next to nothing. So again, it boils back to the fatties.

It’s cute when people think taxation isn’t a zero sum game
