    Default Metaverse

Considering this has massive societal altering potential, what are everyone's thoughts on "Metaverse"?

I don’t think it’ll change anything. It’s just a BS hierarchy change so that they can say some things are part of Meta rather than Facebook because of the growing Facebook is too big and needs to be broke up topic. It’s the same as google forming alphabet as a new parent company. Google is still google at the end of the day.

Might help to post some context. I had no clue what you were talking about and this should speak volumes of the age groups who this would affect.

This won't affect me nor will I even care.. Facebook sucks.

I would say that for about 5 billion people, VR is a more compelling reality than reality. If everyone wanted to take a trip to space, we would probably burn up all the carbon fuels on earth in a matter of a week.

Meta Quest. Same info gathering, under different umbrella. Oculus has officially been retired.

I think this is more than just Facebook. I think FB is renaming itself so it can stamp itself as the leader of VR/AR, but I assume all the big guys (Google, Apple) have big plans.

Maybe it's the next big thing (like Internet, mobile, social media was before it). It seems inevitable really. For remote work, why would we go into the office if we could interact virtually just as well as we could in-person.

VR is just an escape - AR will be the real world use cases.

Both can applied in real world use. VR can be more immersive for different tasks and collaboration. While AR is very good function specific use (architecture, lessons, design, games etc.)

Unless porn started it, it's not going to work online.
Firm belief porn made all the breakthroughs anything internet related.
