I think Buster wants his kids to be close enough to the poor people that they get some perspective, or some shit like that.

I'm going the other route and trying to distance my kids from the unwashed masses.
I have this debate all the time. Part of me wants to give my kids all that I never had growing up, including being sheltered from undesirables. Part of me wants them to be exposed so that they have drive not to be in that situation.

I realized a little while ago that I was one of those "undesirables" growing up.

The problem is that there's plenty of undesirable kids in desirable neighborhoods. Having wealthy parents doesn't stop them from being little shits or drug dealers.

The trick is to live in a nice neighborhood full of boomers with no kids.

Kids are the worst, right up there with dog owners.

Boomers have unrestrained grandkids running around though. I guess the best idea is to be in a neighborhood of old money, where they send all the kids away from home to private boarding schools.

Kind of sounds like the root problem is just... Other people.

100acres of wooded land, and private helicopter is the real key.

Modern grandparents don’t do that, they run away to Arizona or Palm Dessert 6 months of the year and golf the other 6.

My wife and I were out for a walk the other day and some clapped out Dodge Ram drove by, being loud. Wife complained about living too close to the hood. I pointed out to her that the world needs the worker bees to do their thing so that people with capital can stand on the shoulders of labour.
    Amen.

    Wait. I'm a worker bee...

Yup my parents, and wifes parents, are each gone half the year. It's almost perfect though, as my parents are gone Dec-May (give or take), and her parents are gone most of May-Oct. Lots of support, without being smothered. win win win?

Are we talking about car recession deals here, or something else?

He means people that work with their hands. And I don't mean shitposting on beyond while you write emails, we're talking about real man work that hurts your back and gives you callouses, and uses 1.4% of your cognitive ability (or maybe a bit more for some folks, but I digress).

I consider thread topics to be fluid concepts. I’m progressive like that.

I thought about moving the family to India for a year to teach the kids life lessons haha. I don’t think they’d survive a month.

It depends on your own financial/societal status on how your kids would do in India. If you're a well-off they won't need to lift a finger and if you're not then yea maybe they won't even survive a month.
