What I'm hearing is "let's protect the face and make my ass easy to wash."

    Anal-ogy checks out.

Isn't it worth just spending the extra money and wrapping the whole car instead of doing half in PPF and half in coating?

That's what I did for my car and thinking back, I'd just YOLO and get it all wrapped.
The cost to do the front Vs full wrap makes the full wrap seem attractive. That's what I did and my stress levels have never been lower haha. For me, definitely worth it.

Some places are crazy expensive though, my quotes varied by $2K for the exact same product and installation procedure, so make sure you call around. Rainer and Jackie did mine (Nanodefense) and their work is always top notch. I paid less than $5K and Shadow tint for example wanted $6500.

Don't pay for a coating - over the counter products have come so far over the last few years that it is a huge waste of money and so easy to do yourself. You can still put a coating on top of your PPF if you wish. The coating is for easier washing/maintenance and protection against things like UV, bird droppings, sap, etc. It does absolutely nothing in terms of physical damage protection.

To be frank, I don't know where all these $5k quotes are coming from but I'm just a pleb with my G37xS lol.

I've never wrapped a full car but these days I'm tempted to. Using various price quotes off the top of my head:

$1200 for a full front (hood, bumper, a/b pillars, mirrors, 8" roof line)
$300 for two doors (cause I got them done later on)

That really just leaves the rest of the roof, quarter panels, side skirts, and rear bumper/trunk. How much more could these things cost?

I like Rainer and Jackie's work. They've been very good to me.

If you already have the entire front and 2 doors done, the rest will probably be ~$2500-3000. Pricing seems to be pretty linear. Depending on the kit, they will also do behind the door handles, door sills, badges, behind license plate, etc.

The quote is based on the size of vehicle and/or how annoying it is to wrap rather than the value of the car you are applying it to. The PPF itself is not expensive, you're mostly paying for prep and skilled labor.

The other way to do a wrap is not with a kit but instead custom cut sheets that wrap around every single edge, but that is extremely expensive. It also requires a very skilled person because they cut the film on your paint with a razor.

Taking my car to Jackie @ nano defense for a FULL wrap in couple weeks....their price is very competitive, but I haven't asked for "beyond" discount yet. Who should I name drop?

Just saying you are a Beyonder is enough.

I'm very happy with their work for my PPF, looks good over a year later and 75k kms of travel.

Do we just refer to you as the guy with the minivan?

Thumbs up great suggestion on PPF

I have to thank fellow beyonders for making the recommendation on PPF.

My hat goes off to Rainer and Jackie (@nanodefense). They put tons of effort into making things right the first time.

In fact, they went above and beyond to make sure my car is fully protected, I couldn't be happier with their work. 1000% recommended.

I tried getting a quote through Shadow's website and got an auto acknowledgement but no actual response and email to [email protected] bounced back. I phoned to follow up and they sent me an email that came directly from [email protected] and was signed Shadow Tinting / XPEL Canada.

    Did Shadow get bought out?

I always like to stick with places that have treated me the best. Shadow Tinting is good but I had to return several vehicles to get panels redone and Thompson Design (closed now as Darren works for someone else) did a poor job on my M2 (Darren had one of his cronies do it). Refine has done the best PPF work I've had done so I always go back to Richard. For ceramic Rainer did a fantastic job on my X3M and I plan on going back to him for my ceramic applications.
