Yeah, just put an email notification or set up RSS feeds, but keep the keywords vague for a wider range of hits.

    Looks good. How's the fit?
for her, I might lower the drop bar a bit more but other than that it's perfect, she did a quick ride around the block and enjoyed it. much better than the canadian tire bike that she owned growing up.

for me, surprisingly it also fits good as it is. I could use a longer stem but the short one is ok. cornering still feels hard/heavy compared to the opus but that can be good for other reasons.

Sooo with the new bike in the stable.. what are guys using to protect the paint? Helicopter tape seems to be the main recommendation but not sure where to get in town

I buy the protection kits at Bow to cover the chainstay and where any cables can rub the frame. They're $10 or something and worth it. I'm sure most bike shops have them.

Don't get the kits from MEC. I bought a couple and my chain has already shredded up the chainstay protector on my Jake (though the material is good enough for cable rub).

Helicopter tape looks like a cool option though. I might consider that whenever I get a new bike next.

Most new bikes will have tape over the chainstay already. I usually add tape under the downtube. You can get them for ~10bucks or so from Bow.

For Mountain, this was recommended to me. Works awesome.

parts finally came in and finished working on the Kona Dr Dew (beater/winter bike) and Kona Jake the Snake (trainer bike)

replaced the 3x9 Deore on the Dew with a 2x10 Tiagra flat bar shifter, Claris 50/34 crankset as it was cheap

then I moved the 3x9 Deore on the JTS

I can't install the rear derailleur and chain yet because I'm waiting for the derailleur hanger to arrive in the mail. also I'm still waiting for the trainer.
no brakes as it will be a trainer anyway but might get more mini-V brakes in case i want to use this on the road ahha.

do trainer tires really need to have high pressure? (100-140psi)

I run my trainer tire at about 110psi.

What are some common biking parts u guys stock in your Garage? Need to buy some brake pads and want to get free shipping from Cr.

Thinking bar tape, another chain, tubes, spare brake pads? Anything else that commonly needs to be replaced with mileage?

Guess I could look into slowly stocking up parts to the conversion to 1x

Tires, Cassette, chain lube, front chain ring. Maybe a kit to bleed brakes? Fork seals if you have suspension and suspect they may be due soon. I stock alot of extra parts that others wouldn't though.

As far as "wear and tear" parts, I keep:

    - Spare brake and shifter cables. Three of each in case I have to do both sides, then I'll have a spare in case I screw one up or forget to restock.
    - Cable ends
    - Cable housing
    - Tubes. Even old tubes can come in handy: you can save the valves if you decide to go tubeless or the tubes can be used as the bottom layer if you double wrap your handlebars
    - Spare tire. I find that I run through two rear tires in the time I go through one front, so cause of this I always order my tires in groups of three.
    - Bar tape of various colours. Since I expect to replace bar tape once a year, I usually just buy a bunch of $2 cork ones off eBay all at once.
    - M5 bolts and washers

I dunno if keeping spare brake pads around is necessary. It's not like they suddenly stop working on you. Just make sure you keep an eye on them and get them as needed. I did keep spares around. And now I have pads for brakes that don't fit any of my current bikes.

Keeping a spare chain isn't a terrible idea, but I keep my previous chain around in case I still need it. But even then, MEC is 10 minutes away from me and they carry SRAM chains for cheap if I'm ever in a jam.

Not a maintenance part exactly, but I also keep headset spacers of various sizes on hand in case I ever want to tweak my stem/handlebar height.

Spare tubes. That's about it. I have enough spare bikes that if something breaks on one I just grab another bike

don't really stock for parts either, tools on the other hand.. I have more for the bikes than cars

like Penguin and other guys here, we have a couple of spare bikes if needed, also MEC is 5min away from work that if I ever need anything I'll just walk there during my break.

the only spare parts I keep at home are tubes, tires and chain connector pins.

btw hands down my favorite tool (other than a multi-tool) that will make your life easier to load road tires

might not be needed if you're using 700x32 and bigger though

I'll take the seat..and pass it along if it doesn't work for me. Riding a trainer has taken its toll on my junk

    what size are your feet?
I'm size 9.5-10 and my cheap Shimano shoes are 43. might be interested on yours as spare, does it take 2 bolt SPDs?

I'm usually a 9-9.5 but these shoes ended up being too big for me when I got cycling socks (don't ask haha). I use these cleats:

I'll be down mid-Feb for a few days so we can meet up.

    NBD!

After I got the parts needed to do my 1x conversion, I realized with that and the spare parts I've accumulated, I wasn't too far off from having a complete bike. So eh, why not? I've been reading up on those Chinese carbon fibre frames for the last two years and this gave me a reason to pull the trigger. I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the frame just based on a quick inspection. I can't wait to put it together, just need a couple more things.

Frame, fork, and seatpost pictured weigh 1.78kg.
