The Blues released a statement last night that Jay suffered a "cardiac episode" in which they had to use the paddles to bring him back. Pretty scary stuff. Blessing and a curse for his dad to be there, but i am sure you would rather witness it in person and be able to be with your son immediately rather than have to get the news on the phone and than catch a flight to Anaheim.

Watched the leafs canes game. Both canes goalies out in the middle of 2nd. Emergency backup comes in with 30m of ice time. First 2 sog goes in, canes tighten up and wins. .800sv%, first emergency goalie with nhl win, oldest goalie to win regular season debut at 42 years old.

Well, the season has officially been put on pause. In 1919 the Stanley Cup was never awarded due to the Spanish Flu and i certainly hope that precedent does not take place again. I remain optimistic based on the recovery in China and S. Korea, but only time will tell.

Yeah but in 1919, they didn't have EA Sport NHL. They can still play online and award the Stanley Cup to the Flames.

If the 'pause' is longer then 2-3 weeks (which it will need to be to make any sort of significant difference in spead) then this season isn't going to get played out.... you start compromising next season. My guess is they revisit in 2-3 weeks, realize they're still fucked and the season is canceled.

The playoffs provide the largest revenues for the owners and the sport, as the viewership doubles and the players are not paid for any games played after the regular season. Even if they have to end the regular season as is, they will find a way to make the playoffs happen by extending into the summer a few weeks longer than normal. That way the playoff teams could have a slightly shorter summer, which i know they would all gladly sacrifice for the chance for glory, or they just push the following season by a week via a shortening of the preseason.

They would have to base it off of a points %, so points earned divided by total available points (2*games played). If still in a tie, then maybe it would go to goal differential or something else that is not dependent on games played. Sort the following link by PTS%.

Except they would never do that because players on teams who have played fewer games and just barely miss the playoffs would file a grievance with the NHLPA. They might not get paid, but they do get performance bonuses depending on how far into the playoffs they get.

If the league felt it was safe enough to proceed with playoffs, they'd feel it would be safe enough to finish off the regular season, or at the very least enough of it with a modified schedule so that everyone played an even number of games.
