What's the fine print on that? If it covers lost/stolen, how often can you claim it since they would have no way of confirming anything?

Surface Pro pioneered 3D/IR facial scanning and made face recognition fast and secure, but there are still downsides. In differing lighting conditions especially outdoors in the sun with a lot of IR noise, you need to reprogram it to recognize you again pretty regularly depending on the sun's direction and intensity. It's a bit of a pain in the ass.
Uh oh, looks like FaceID might suffer from similar issues with IR noise from the sun.

    http://fortune.com/2017/10/31/apple-...e-id-sunlight/

Both Nilay Patel at The Verge and James Martin at CNET reported on Tuesday that when they used the iPhone in “bright sunlight,” the smartphone’s face scanner became “inconsistent.” Patel suggested in his review that he believed the problem had to do with infrared light and the iPhone X not being able to consistently adapt to it.

“I took a walk outside our NYC office in bright sunlight, and Face ID definitely had issues recognizing my face consistently while I was moving until I went into shade or brought the phone much closer to my face than usual,” he said.

Patel’s problem centered mainly on Face ID. Martin, however, noted that the direct sunlight was more of a problem when he was taking selfies with the front-facing camera.

AP technology writer Anick Jesdanun wrote in his own review that “Face ID worked better than expected in bright sunlight,” but added that at times, it wouldn’t work.

Should have just gone with a tried and tested rear-mount or power button fingerprint reader like everyone else if they wanted the whole front to be a display. So many problems with all these facial recognition systems and IMO seems like a dumb idea to test out questionable new tech on a company's flagship. Quite the oversight if Apple didn't test the system outdoors...I don't imagine it will affect sales though haha.

    Maximum Number of Claims
If you have one or more Desjardins Credit Card Account(s)
providing Mobile Device Insurance, the maximum number of
claims under all Your Accounts is limited to one claim in any 12
consecutive month period and two claims in any 48 consecutive
    month period.

    https://www.desjardins.com/ressource...=1490980878000

Basic marth is phone $1000, for each month you have it you lose 2% depreciation and then you pay the deductible.

So, you can get a new $1000 phone every year by "losing" it or breaking it, plus what you can sell the "lost" or even the replacement phone for, less $100 deductable? That sounds almost too good to be true, I wonder how frequently that's abused.

I mean isn't that the honor system for anything?

People get insurance for diamond rings and then *lose* the ring.

I bet though if you use your card for everything, you could have a flight worth more than $900 every two years easily on a good travel card like Avion. I know I do.

Not sure what other perks that MC offers but if that is the only thing, it wouldn't be enough to make me want to switch.

How is this phone so expensive? I dont really understand how apple can increase the cost of their products by $200 or more every release. For instance in NZD the 256GB iPhone X is $2100 bought outright. Exchange rate of CAD to NZD is 1:1.13

My other question is how come this phone doesn't have the standard and large format like all the other phones before it.

Its called supply and demand. Even at this crazy price there is no shortage of people willing to pay for it.

That's next year's goals, to incorporate all the features in the X into the main line at lower costs. This year, they got fucked by Samsung, they're charging double of what they charge for OLED displays. Single supplier, you're basically hooped. Next year, LG will be producing the displays at a much lower cost.

Where are you seeing increased costs every release? If anything, Apple's held their prices for years on the iPhones and it's always been pricey especially off contract. Our prices in Canada went up because of exchange rate. Here's the history, the only jumps in price were due to memory upgrades, iPhone 7 Plus ($20) went from 16GB to 32GB, and iPhone 8 and 8 Plus ($50/$30) to bring both up to 64GB minimum.

    iPhone 5 - $649
    iPhone 5S - $649
    iPhone 6/Plus - $649/$749
    iPhone 6S/Plus - $649/$749
    iPhone 7/Plus - $649/$769 (16gb to 32gb base for plus)
    iPhone 8/Plus - $699/$799 (both to 64gb base)

    The X isn't a price jump, it's a new premium line.

They are able to incorporate larger than plus size screen into a non plus package. Best of both worlds.

I never got the Plus because it was way too big for daily use, but I really wanted the dual cameras. The X was a no brainer for me.

Even when you order computers from Apple, it only takes a couple days to get here from Taiwan.

The only thing I wish this phone had was the fingerprint scanner at the back or something. Oh and a lower price would have been nice too but obviously we consumers always get screwed over as far as that is concerned.
