Probably a dumb question... But anyone run a set of General Grabber AT3's through the winter here?

I ran the Grabber AT2's on my old Ram and they were awesome.

I can only imagine the AT3's would be improved.

How do the ATX compare to AT3?

I was pretty unimpressed with AT/X with studs on my Dmax.

We'll find out. It's what UrbanX recommended as a year-round option.

This tire is not even listed on Generals own Website. Either way too new or only ever made as a private model (kinda like CanTire does with some of their models "made by" but are really just a private label tire. Honestly not sure and will ask my rep tomorrow. Even Tirerack only shows a single size in 275/45R20.

Sounds like it might be a one off for X5’s, didn’t realize that.

Basically BMW offers a somewhat subsidized wheel and tire package with these where the tires are basically free considering what the wheels cost. I think they are kind of cool as a winter / off road set, but if they are complete trash for winter then that’s a no go.

Sure Kenny ran these on his Gladiator last year and really rated them.

You going studded or non studded?

Kenny recommended the Grabbers, hah. Unstudded, since I want to run them in summer as well.

Questions for those who have used studded tires....

Are they pretty noisy when driving, especially on the highway? And do they chew up driveways and parkades pretty badly?

I'm kind of on the fence on getting them (or winter tires in general). I don't actually drive a whole lot to begin with, but having them would certainly give me a lot of piece of mind when I take the occasional trip out to the mountains to snowboard.

Noise depends on the vehicle. My Civic and Saabaru were loud as fuck, the 4runner and truck were barely noticeable. The Merc is in between. So long as you aren't turning the steering wheel on dry cement without moving, it won't damage the concrete.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

If they're too noisy, turn up the radio

They don't have any other cons IMO

    Maybe, and no.

I haven't noticed highway noise being any different, but as mentioned above, it's highly dependent on how loud your car is to begin with. A well-insulated car, you won't notice the diff. Econo-shitbox, you probably will.

It’s loud with the windows down for me as the E Wagon insulates well. I expect it to be loud as fuck on the Sienna. The engine runs only 1/2 the time and I can hear all the road noise already with all seasons.

My driveway has been OK, but my cousin who showed up in a heavy SUV with Hakkas scratched up my driveway nicely from turning while stopped. Chinese drivers lol.
