Default Ceiling Speakers - Without Central Control system?

Hey guys need some home audio advice - We just bought a house (early 00s built) that has in ceiling speakers through out. Now I've had this in all of my past homes but usually the speakers are all tied into a central control system (Russound etc.) and separated by zones. In this house every room that has speakers has it's own speaker terminals with volume control. So does this mean my only option is to an amp in every room that has speakers? or is there some sort of cool tech out there that I can use to somehow centralize everything? The bonus room is easy enough as I'll just tie them into my HT set-up, it's the rest of the house I'm trying to figure out. Off the top of my head I believe there are 4 other "zones" that I need to deal with.

based on my understanding of your scenario, and my limited knowledge of existing tech... yes you will be spending on multiple amps and will have separate connections to each zone

Sonos amp in each room if you're rich. They're like $1000 a piece, and can power 2 or 4 speakers. Sonos ties all of them together in a sense where you can play music over whichever room you want.

I can't think of anything else that ties it all together into 1 as easily.

If this was a long term house I'd probably go the Sonos route, I found this on Amazon..might just put one of these in each of the rooms and call it a day.

For a budget option, Arylic Audio seems to have a multi-room option.

Fuck sonos. I bought connect amp for $650 back in the day to have wireless streaming from my phone only for it not to be compatible with iphones within 3 months. Never again. Now I have an expensive brick that I need to plug into, defeating the whole purpose.

I mean. Pro level home automation can do it ( Russound, Control4 ) but you need to have all the wiring terminate to a central location.

Basically the choice is spend money having the wiring fished to a central location, and then on an amp and controller there.

Or spend money on a Sonos amp for each zone you care about or use a competing product like control4 triad one to tie into home automation.

Honestly the sonos amps seem like the best solution here.

Alternatively you can buy like 6 chrome cast audios and plumb them into a cheap single zone amp for each zone. Probably cheaper than sonos but kind of a mess. I don’t have any suggestions for what to buy but I’m sure a cheap amp exists?

Dont forget that Google discontinued the Chromecast audio a couple of years ago because they are retarded.

OP wants to centralize, only reason why I suggested Sonos. Interesting "cheap" solutions out there, but Sonos just works (even tho their app interface is meh). That Arylic does look like it's a Sonos clone, would definitely read up on how well it works together first.

Really? Our Sonos setup works perfect with all our iDevices at home. What's not working on it?

Pretty much off topic but, what's the point in NEW construction of even hard wiring anything anymore? I feel like it's becoming irrelevant now to spend 40K on a wired home audio setup.

I don't have that exact unit, I just have the S10 preamp. Uses the same app and it seems pretty decent. Also available on Aliexpress if you have some discount or coupon to use.

well, you can't make speakers produce sound without a wire and an amp.

He got fucked on the generation bump where the old devices can’t use the new app and features.

All the old stuff still works exactly the way it always did, just not forward compatible with the new stuff.

Basically the old connect amps and a few other legacy pieces don’t have the internal hardware to be able to run things like AirPlay and the Sonos 2 app.

I also got fucked but I got 3 years of use before that happened. They did offer owners of the old stuff a hefty discount to upgrade though.

Yes- going through a new build currently and kept my home automation/security and audio to well under 10k. I still feel it's worthwhile hard wiring some locations you might want, and centrally terminating. Gives lots of flexibility in the future.

You aren't wrong that the quality of wireless interconnect limits the value of wiring.

cat6 everywhere is still a must

The source connections are just speaker terminals in each room for the corresponding sealing speakers. Thanks for the feedback everyone, definitely won't go the route of centralizing everything by re-wiring. I think I'll do some more research on the arylic stuff seems like it's a budget solution for what I need.

Two cheap ways to solve this problem imo.

Chromecast or Homebrew Airplay receiver. I have done both. Amazon mini amp per zone (2.0 or 2.1) and a chromecast/Airplay receiver for each. Cost you about $150 per zone at most.

Just feel the evolution of some well placed sonos etc. locations makes the need for hard-wired room to room systems unnecessary for the vast majority. I didn't bother with my most recent home and I can't say it's missed in any way whatsoever so just wondering how others feel. I have some wicked old school floor towers with a receiver/turntable for channeling my inner hipster (and mostly just for how deadly the setup looks) but that's enough for me these days.
