reading on AMSOIL website that K&N lets too much dirt through...

is this just to bash K&N and to promote their own product which uses oily filters to block more dirt? or whats goin on here...

i c, didnt kno that.. they look pretty dry on pictures and stuff... i guess its just marketing to make ppl buy amsoil..

I've had a K+N in my car for a while with no problems and they are a very reputable brand with a million mile warrenty on their filters. They also use a oil to coat the filter and trap small dirt particles.

Amsoil filters are those el-cheapo oiled foam style IIRC. Above is just one of many online published tests that continually places foam based filters at the bottom of the pack.

so... k&n is the 2nd worst according to them.. blitz is best as i see...or apexi, neither requires oiling..

and about the K&N leaking a bit of oil according to blitz and covering the intake and o2 censor with it eventually? whats with that?

Filtration: Best to Worst

1: Apex-i
2: K&N
3: Blitz
4: HK$

The horsepower differences between them mean nothing, they're within 1hp. There will always be a margin of error.

The oiled filters can leave deposits on the AFM if the filter is over oiled. People tend to do that often following the, 'more is better' mentality. There is a definate possibility for sensor damage or failure.

More flow = larger holes = less filtration = more dirt

For the minimal gains that the K&N might provide it isn't worth reducing the life of your engine. Paper filters dirt better than K&N, might not flow better but filters better.

I wish that one of the car magazines would do a long-term test... get two identical cars & run 1 with a K&N and the other with a stock filter. Then, after 3 years pull the engine apart and look at the wear. This will solve everybody's questions once and for all

So WHY DON'T THEY DO IT?!?!!?

They would have to be driven in identical conditions. Too many variables..

Here is my blitz, but I all ready knew it had ass filtration, but being metal it echo's the return air from my turbo at low psi that's too low for the BOV. So it makes sounds different that a paper filter. But what ever...I have head the Apexi is best all around according to JAPAN!

altho foam filters liek hks are really good at filtration/flow, i stay teh hell away from them.

ive heard way too many stories about the foam disintegrating and flying into the intake..

i use the hks airfilter. lol. never had a problem with the dual stage foam element. i know its not the best airfilter but i don't really give a shit so i'll probably continue using it..... plus it looks damn nice under the hood.
