attachment of door skins

how are outer door skins attached? welded? some kinda 'glue'?

And how much would a bodyshop usually charge to a)remove a door skin
b) install a door skin

(no painting involved)

Would it be possible to DIY?

cant answer you're question but maybe this will help someone else answer it... what to do you plan on doing?

im assuming they're welded on and wrapped around the door frame.... proba have a hard time taking them off and putting them back on with damaging them and fucking up youre cars body lines...

I tried to search on the net and said they usually aren't welded anymore on new cars. What is tack welded? and then some kinda glue holds it together.

I'll get a quote for a bodyshop to do it I guess.

Tack welding is where they press the two pieces of metal together, and then place an electrode on either side of the two pieces being joined. They run the current through the panel, melting both pieces under the electrodes to make the connection.

...most body shops will quote you around 5 hours labor to attach a new skin plus paint of course.
