Math Question

Ok I am lost on (what you will probably find the easiest) this.

Isolate the following equations for the variable stated.

F= GMm
..... R^2

for R




1 = 2 + 3
N .. M .. P

for M


P= A
.. A-B

for A


There's many more but I just need a idea on how its figured out.

Its a online course, so I have no teacher to show me how its done. That and well Ive been out of school for 12 years so the mind needs refreshing.

nope, the a cannot cancel out

a = 6
b=4

6/(6-4) = 6/2 = 3
1/-6 !=3

Hmmm this is messed up. (Its a grade 11 physics course btw) I have the trig , factor conversion, graphing and vectors down but for the life of me I cant understand this isolation stuff.

do you need direction on how to isolate, or just need the isolation done?

So P= Fd/t isolate F

would this be F= P-d/t ????

P=Fd/t
So first you want to get rid of the denominator so u multiply both sides by t. The t cancels on the right side b/c (1/t) * t = 1.

pt=FD

and then now you need to isolate F
so u basically divide both sides by d.
on the right side: d/d = 1

Thus giving you
F = pt/d

Well I would like to know how its done really, but I figured if I saw some answer I could figure it out (like a kick start for the brain, which does seem to be working).

your problem is not isolation.....your real problem is that you don't understand algebra.....

what you have to do is go on the net, and read some tutorial on how to solve algebraic equations, and how to manipulate algebraic equations (its not hard, i learned it in grade 6).,.....once you understand algebra, you can do this shit in your head...

ill try an explanation. kinda hard on here but ill give'r.

P= Fd/t isolate F answer is F=Pt/d

how i did it.
first look at what you want to do, isolate F, in other words, move everything to the other side.
1) 't' is under a division sign, therefore to get it to the other side of the equal sign you must multiply it on the other side. so you will have Pt=Fd
2)you must also move 'd' to the other side, but it is above a division sign so you must divide it to get it to the other side. therefore it goes under ANY variables on the other side, who are above a division line. thus you end up with Pt/d=F or F=pt/d if that works better for you.

if you have trouble visualising what is above a division sign try it like this. anywhere there is no "division line", make one and simply put 1 underneath. this works because anything divided by 1 equals the same thing it is. so you could have P/1=Fd/t.

jaysas, youre right I do need to brush up on algebra, but like I said I havent been in school for 12 years and algebra isnt something a person keeps in their mind for that long.
