Default Just bought a nissan :D

    Hey,

I just bought a 1992 240sx. I plan on doing the engine swap as pretty much every body with 240's do, haha. Just debating what engine I want in there. It is between the RB20/25, and SR20.

Just wondering what your guys' opinions are on the engines. Like the cost and power differences between them, and what is the best value all in all.

    thanks
    kurt

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

thats actually a good idea. i know i just bought a 240, but i still want to try and do something different, haha. i'm sure out of the turbo'd 240s in town, the least are turboed KA's. i'm gonna think more about that route.

    and thanks for the link

Am I the only one that get's tired of this "which engine is better" debate?

Do your research, and find out which motor is best designed for your needs/wants.

    - How much do you want to spend?
    - is motor weight an issue?
    - what style of driving do you do?
    - how much power do you want to make?
    - is aftermarket parts availability a concern?
    - do you do all your own work?
    etc blah blah blah

Someone's opinion doesn't make any motor better than the other.

sr20 is sweet and easy, black top for sure but if you got the funds then rb20 is better for tuning, not sure about parts though, rb 20 is inline 6 2.0 vs. sr20 inline 4, is the rb 25 AWD? that might be alot more expensive, go to jdm source on 36th street they can tell you what to do, good guys working there

CA= bad market support, and you guys are in canada, your market support is bad enough

RB=expensive, nose heavy, wasn't designed for the 240, parts avaibility problem

sr= designed for 240, reliable, not too expensive, uses some parts found on SRs in north america.

    ka-t= no comment on this

what are you talking about, i know that for the ca18 you can get from any shop; cams, pistons, valve springs, cam gears, intercoolers, injectors, blah blah blah.

the whole "ca18 having no aftermarket support" statement is bullshit. the parts just aren't cheap. for a pair of cams your looking at paying like $900 for the hks ones or $1400 for the tomei ones. the ca does have support, just not support from north american companies. I must say i do get jealous at the cost for the sr20 aftermarket parts.

as for just sticking to stock stuff, EVERYTHING from a ca18de swaps over. the head is exactly the same. same with the block. except for the crank and the pistons i believe. not 100% sure on that. but i do know that the piston rings do swap over as well.

before you bash a ca18 research because even the ka24 clutch swaps over with the removal of a flywheel pin.
