How have you been trying...? Faxing in your resume? Go in in person and talk with them. My buddy faxed and faxed and faxed, then he decides to go into a few places, spent a day talking with 5 places. The 5th place offered him a job right there, which he took, but he got calls back offering a job from 3 out of the other 4 the very next day.

    This would be my suggestion.

i work motors for TrailBlazer drilling.. by far the best company ive worked for and ive done all the big ones.. Ensign, Precision ,ETC....it can be very hard work, and it does help to be fairly strong...... but all in all most people can not make it up at the riggs, i dont know how many times ive seen people buy all the new shit and then last 2 days...

i cant complain though, im 19 and clear around $4500.00 every 2 weeks..... but its back to school next year

is there a trailblazer office in calgary?

i applied at sds drilling(dropped off resumeand talk to the hr guy) but they say that they don't have any openings for a couple of months , dude recommended that I get a temp job to keep myself available .

For people who asked about MWD

If you have no school apply at a small company and get paid more then you will at a big company.

For those who want to learn some cutting edge mumbo jumbo go get an electrical, computer, electronics, or oil related degree/diploma then apply to one of the big companies and MWD then move into being a DD. You will be given the opportunity to learn things you will never see working for a small alberta based company, but on the other hand you will never make as much money as you would consulting, not that making 10k/mth isnt much money. You will also be given the opportunity to work around the world, work offshore, and work on BIG projects that make the biggest well in AB look like kids playing in a sandbox. I should also mention that working for a big company you may feel disconnected and not cared about. you wont get the attention you might get from a smaller company, however there are amazing resources with a bigger company that you can take advantage of and its up to you to do so.

So really its up to you. I'm not saying that you cant have a rewarding career working in AB for a small company, but if you want to work on the big stuff you gotta go with a big company.

I have a degree in electronics and Im an MWD - The kid who was picking up his MWD tool for Gyro data when I got to this job was making 225/day + 2100/mth salary and 2 months earlier he worked at a gas station.

And for the people who want to work on the rigs, I can't understand how they are not hiring you people!? you're obviously sending in your resumes to the wrong place. I see a new lease hand and a new rough neck on every crew almost every week. The turn over out here is ridiculous.

So I'm going to do all you people a favour here:

    good news

got a call from sds drilling and they want me to start training tommarrow ! for two days . the idea is that they would like to have a few guys go threw traing so that when a call comes in for a roughneck, leasehand/derrickhand, they have the guys ready to go on short notice.

trailblazer is also hiring anyone intrested should fax them a resume ATTN: Gail

OK, I am from Winnipeg and my plan right now is to go out to Alberta in June to work on the rigs for 6 months or so. My reasoning is that I would be treated like shite for $11/hr working "8hr (really 10hr but 2hr's are unpaid) days." why not make 22/hr+OT+125/day working for Nabors or somewhere like that! I have never really worked in this field b4 but like to get my hands dirty. Given this, I have a few questions:

    1) what is the diff b/w a Lease Hand and a Roughneck?

    2) Can a person who only has the following (see list) get a MWD position?
    -H2S certificate
    -1st aid/CPR certificate
    -University Honours Degree (philosophy)
-class 5 (and soon to be class 3) lisence

    3) what eactly do need to drive the hydrovac trucks around the rigs?

    4) Would u suggest for me to go out to Calgary right now to knock on some doors? or should I just submit my application and resume, then make some phone calls?

any help would be greatly appreciated...cheers
