I don't have a big problem with drug dealers, but if you do the crime be prepared to do the time. I don't care what the penalty is. Damn that is harsh punishment. I make sure to check my luggage if someone were to drop something into my bag and I could be wrongly accuse for an illegal substance which was never mind in the first place. The courts in singapore wont believe you at all.

haha. my cousin has spent almost all of his life behind bars... he's an idiot doing robberies and assaults.. he's not coming out. when he was out he told me never to do anything to goto jail, but if you do, kick someones ass or become someones bitch the first day.... that doesn't sound so good...

in a well-off society like ours, i actually think some harsh treatment like this would work. because death is so far away from other options that we might have here (like you wouldn't bring of bag of watever for someone if you knew the penalty was death). however, in poorer countries, i don't think peanalties like death work, because the ppl have starved their whole life, they'd die to spend a lot of $ for a day.

Look at the Canadian Justice system --- Its a joke, what is more of a joke is the Young Offenders Act. Criminals have it good here. The whole Justice System is in shambles. Ya i agree with redbeast that the Young Offenders Act is pathetic. If you have ever seen the Jonathan Womback story, you'll know how easy it is for a kid to commit a messed up crime and only get a slap on the wrist.

As for the Aussie, I think its his own stupidity that he ended up where he is. Even though i think the death penalty is unnecessary, Im sure he was quite aware of the rules and laws in the country. Wtf was he thinking when he tried to slip by airport security carrying a lb of drugs.

I remember when I visited Singapore, there was this one street with nothing but gold jewelry shops (somewhere in 'Little India'). They had no bars or cages securing the jewelry, I asked the guy why don' they protect their shit. He said if you steal something in Singapore and they catch you, say bye-bye to your hands!
