    Speed + Alcohol again........
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

At 11:23 PM on Saturday the 29 October 2005 police, fire and
EMS responded to a traffic collision on Heritage Drive
between 11 Street and Deerfoot Trail SE.

Initial investigations indicate that a 2000 two door silver
Acura Integra and a 1995 two door yellow Ford Mustang were
both travelling east bound on Heritage Drive just east of 11
Street SE when they collided. The driver of the Integra lost
control and traveled into a field on the south side of the
road where it rolled. One occupant was thrown from the
vehicle. Bystanders and then EMS attended to the injured
occupants but were both pronounced dead at the scene. The
driver of the mustang also lost control and crossed over the
center median before stopping further down the road. The
driver of the mustang remained at the scene and was not
injured but it is believed several other occupants left the
    scene.

Both deceased in this collision are males in there early
    20’s.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in this
    collision.

There was a brutal accident tonight on the overpass for Deerfoot and 16th Ave NE.

Looked like there were 4 or 5 cars involved and one of them was totally decimated.

    No shit, it amazed me.

In Calgary wait 5 minutes for the weather to change.
In Calgary wait 4 minutes for another accident.

Honestly, something has to be done about this, its retarded how many collisions there are.

    Fuck sake people.

Whats even more sad is earlier today I called it. Didn't want to go out because way too many people will be drinking up a storm for this stupid halloween barstar horseshit, and low and behold, looks whats going on.

When will people learn is my big question, but short of putting DNA reading breathalyzers in every car in order to operate it, what else can you do, obviously the massive DUI campaigns in school and on TV dont work. Do these people not have decent enough friends to keep them from driving.

    Tragic really...

The 18-25 crowd sure took a beating this week.

Don't think the message will ever get across
People just naturally assume that they are invincible and it won't ever happen to them. They just aren't thinking. Honestly I'm just fucking sick of hearing this 'We are human, we make mistakes bullshit' It's no excuse.

perhaps texas is onto something here, their first offence is 6 months without a liscence, the second offence is up to 6 months jailtime, i think if somebody knows anybody that's been to jail for a dui, it would be greatly reduced, perhaps this would actually induce fear for drunk drivers

and as ben said, it's actually starting to become a good idea to stay at home on weekend evenings and nights, this is actually getting out of hand in this city

the thing is, a friend/family member of the driver/passenger of the integra is going to go on some drunk driving campaign advocating to the youth in calgary its potential consequences. it's so sad that you CAN count on it every weekend, and nothing is going to change unless EXTREME measures are taken to change laws, consequences

*shakes head after reading 2 threads about the same thing, different situation* I hope with this tragic onslaught of these kinds of accidents, we (at least us beyonders) have proof that you just, shouldn't, do that.

Fuck, if its not a "gang related murder" its a drunk driving 18-25 year old. I am not even surprised when I read about this stuff in the paper anymore, I'm getting far too used to it, and thats a bad thing.

Glad I didn't go to tims last night. a buddy of mine was driving home from night shift at the steel mill by race city and drove by tims, and he drives a cadillac seville . the cops towed his car because they said he was racing....lol.....cops are gonna be pissed once he shows them his time slip and gets his company to contact them with his allaby

And from what I heard these guys were at tim hortons last night and had participated in a couple of races. Someone said they were going to go from deerfoot south to deerfoot north, to see who the first person to get to deerfoot mall was. retarded.

Edit: I could be wrong, this is just all hearsay.

This street racing problem would be partially resolved if there is a proper track that one might be able to race at for a fee.

I think allot of people realize it, however, the legalities are so messy that people don't wish to attempt it.

    Jesus..................

people I know are the same way.... they all get obliterated and then drive home because it's only a short distance away. they speed, weave thru traffic... this was always scary, but now this just hits home. with the holiday season coming up too....

maybe the police should set up a number, like dial-a-drunk where you can call them if someone intends to drive home or if you see a guy/girl driving drunk.... ?
