I'm looking at buying a set of seats for my car, but they're bright red. I was thinking of dying them black so that they don't stand out like sore thumb in my car. Is this something that can be done? It's just a normal fabric, no leather/suede.

Ummm... never really heard of people dying their seats, they'd probably have to rip everything apart just to dye the cloth when you could just redo it in a different material.
reappolster (sp?)
whats so special about these red seats?
so does this mean your buying my seats
I have dyed seats with Canadian tire fabric spray but, the cloth comes out a little hard. I really hasn't stained my clothing and it looks all right. Painted from blue to black if I had to painted a red seat black you would need to use more cans.
You can dye the fabric but you have to remove the seats. Safeway and COOP both sell these dyes

yes either bu diff ones or get them recovered.......or just deal with the red
The price was decent on the seats, so I picked them up last night. It looks like it's going to be a pain in the ass to change the color, so I guess that's out of the question. They're only for track use anyhow, I'm going to keep my stock seats in for daily driving.
I was hoping for an easier solution....spraypaint maybe...
well to do it a cheap way, get some dye and put it in a spray bottle. I dont know where to get any but just check around some stores. But im guessing youll need lots to get the whole thing covered in black.
If you cheap out it will look like you cheaped out... and you will get little to no respect.
Dying your seats will leave them crusty, Ive seen it happen dont bother

hehe, thanks for the input everyone....but like my last post already stated, I'm leaving them the color they are. I'm not terribly concerned about the respect that my seats would garner...they're just temp seats. I'll just live with red.
red with grey/black was all the rage a few months ago? C'mon - be a trend whore..
What's this track car look like?

Find the right colour seat?
Other then that, RIT dye (safeway coop kind) doesnt work worth a SHIT .
If your gonna dye them, go to a fabric store and get the real shit.
There is a fabric spray paint called Simply Spray. It comes in assorted colors. You can buy at any fabric store. There is a video at SimplySpray.com how to use it. It can be sprayed directly onto light colored fabrics and dries in 30 minutes, and, best of all, the paint remains soft after drying. I sprayed it on my home stereo speaker cloth cover a month ago and it is still soft.
djayz dyed his seat's. It comes in a spray can and it turned out pretty good. He also did his headliner. Im just not sure what the spray is called haha.
