^ I'm not sure, but are you planning on having it shipped? Otherwise, they will charge you their state tax.
They have wanted $500 for the "certified" inspection and recall letter since 2009Originally posted by clem24

...and you picked it up there? Odd - I read somewhere that they would. Perhaps they were not aware of the rules. Or perhaps they found a way around them. Interesting though...Originally posted by Hollywood

So has anyone attempted to export a vehicle in to the US? I am interested in trading my 2009 Civic Si. The dealer is interested if I do the importation for them.

Haven't read through all 30 pages, but I've heard there are people in town here that will do all the legwork for you to find a vehicle in the states. Anyone dealt with them, reviews or comments?
It's pretty rare that I'd be able to take a bunch to time to go down and actually drive something home. Would love to have someone handle that for me.

^^ what car are you looking at? and where?
will it be cheaper to import a 2002+ M3 to canada or buy it locally??
Has anyone who's imported a BMW into Canada had an issues with Calgary BMW dealers not honoring the warranty? I've heard that some dealers won't honor if you don't get the instrument-cluster changed at a dealer.
And on that note, any idea how much it would cost to swap out a 128i's instrument cluster. I'm thinking about buying a car before i move back to Canada, but need to make sure it makes sense financially.
I had thought it was in the 2-3k range and you must have it done to get warranty work as it is part of their 'inspection'
Ugh, that's what I was afraid of.
Still might be worth it...there doesn't seem to be a great selection of used 128i's in Calgary.
Jesus, I punch in info for a couple online quotes for car shipping brokers and I have literally 10 calls and 10 emails within a half hour.
Anyone else experienced this? Making me anxious on the legitimacy of some of these brokers.
And is this instrument cluster replacement of US cars applicable to all imported BMW's still under warranty?! I have never heard of this, it seems ridiculous and if it is indeed the case, would warrant not buying the states at all.

im just wondering is there any company or beyonder import SUV from the state???
Has anyone here Imported an Audi S4 (I'm looking at an 06) So any B7 series would be similar I'm assuming.
If so, I was hoping to find out if anyone had to pay the green levy for mileage rating or not. And any other issues that the car has coming accross the border.
I have tried to search and read inconsistent things on forums, some good, some bad.
Any info is appreciated.
Making an offer on a 2005 M3 this week.
First time importing, so trying to make sure I don't miss anything.
Dealing with the border in North Dakota has been pretty easy. Faxed my title to them and emailed the recall letter to RIV. Both have confirmed they've received and cleared the documents.
I thought this was gonna be much more work than it really is, but it's turned out to be quite simple.
The US border station even gave me an email address to send everything. All I had to send them was the title and they said they would inspect the other docs once I arrived.
Personally, Jlude... send them all docs that the RIV states you need to send. Rather be over than under.
You sure? I called RIV and they got my recall letter and said it's been cleared.Originally posted by mr2mike

Then the US border, after talking to two guys, they both said, "You don't even need to send us the title, just the make, model and VIN, we'll check everything when you get here". So I double checked, and he gave me an email address to email that info, BUT I also attached scans of the title. I printed copies of all emails and faxes and have them with me.
This border cross seems VERY laid back. But even when I call them and get the automated system, it says just to send the title. So maybe they do things a little differently?
If it's on their automated system then you should be fine. Or some sort of thing in writing. I just would hate to have one of them say, who told you this? We need everything.
But by the sound of it, you should be fine.
