Default 3d image project for school

I am in MRC engineering and I need some sort of program that can convert a 2d image into a 3d image where we can measure the x,y, and z cooridinates of any point. I am struggling right now because I cant find anything that does it on the web. Does anyone have any ideas or anything at all? Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

bah ... you basically need a solid modelling program.... Autodesk Inventor does it, so does Solid Works, Solid Edge, Pro/E, Mechanical Desktop, AutoCAD 3D ... but they all cost money for a license.

MRC should have something there shouldn't it? ACAD at least .. you could use the ACAD 3-D functions.

what type of file is it? I have Inventor here at work and might be able to help you out.
