thinking about getting a station wagon , for its roomyness, and lower then an suv in feul consumption , any sugestions and why.
some of my considerations are :
    mid 90's volvo 850 , s40 or s60
late 90's subaru legacy, impeza or forester

the volvo s40's and 60's are great cars. pretty quick too while being able to haul everything you need.

    I don't think you'll be able to find a S40 or S60 for 10g's.

Late 90 Subaru Outbacks go for aroung that price, pretty nice too for a station wagon!

If you don't mind something a little older, there's always the Accord Wagons (90-97) or the Camry wagons (87-95). They're a little hard to find in good condition in Canada though. The later year models are just under $10,000 for something with relativly low to average mileage.

I would avoid the Outbacks in that price range. They tend to be incredibly high mileage and will have very expensive repair bills. I just bought a Volvo V40 for the same reason as you. The cheapest you can probably find one is around $15K, unless you are willing to buy from Ontario and have it shipped over here.

The Volvo 850 is in your price range. Lots of room with its big square cargo area.

    thanks for the input guys.

i've seen a lot of volvo 850's sedan and wagons both are very nice but they are all turbo and or awd, how rare are the front wheel drive non turbo's? and if i was to choose a turbo powered volvo how are they for reliability? coming from a former dsm owner(awd tsi) and a g60 passat owner i'm not a big fan of boost...

You owned a dsm and a vw...reliability is non-existant with either vehicle. Volvos are one of the longest lasting cars you can find today.

I don't know much about the FWD and AWD volvos, but I have a 88 740 wagon and I love it. If you keep it at stock boost levels, then they're very reliable cars. Even if you up the boost on them a bit, they're still pretty good. But at stock levels they still have plenty of torque. My wagon has more room in the back then my dad's SUV, and it has a 3rd row of seats in the floor if I feel like taking 7 people with me.

I'd be all over the Volvo wagons!

ummm. I'm not sure how to read your reply. Are you just kidding with the Lancer comment? It's an Accord Wagon.

I'd love to get my hands on an Accord CB wagon. That would be a bad-ass daily driver if it had a H22 in it.

BMW 3 T series Touring = Wagon in BMW tgerms. Nice looking, good reliability, will last forever if properly maintained and lots of room.
