Nice..!!
I believe someone in Calgary has one.
Yes, there is one in Calgary, but is worth substantially MORE than that one.
It still has 4 days to go, it'll go for a lot of $$$
Hahaha, more than $400,00 CDN?
Let's wait and see!
Over 200,000 now
Back in the late 1960's early 1970's my dad worked for Shell in England as a mechanical engineer in the R&D department for lubricants.
They would basically take new vehicles, drive them with a certain type of oil and then tear down the motor to examine the wear.
He was quite young and would be allowed to sign out a vehicle for the weekends to drive (and therefore put the much needed mileage on the motor) and at the time they had a few of these gullwing benzos, various other mercedes models, couple Ferraris, Maserati, Porsche as well as a few jaguar E types.
At the end of the tests, the cars were sold for a paltry sum and written off so they could be replaced with new vehicles. IF the vehicles were not purchased, they were either disposed of or sat in an open yard to rust away. He told me he was offered one of the 300SL Gullwings for "a few hundred pounds" (I can't remember the exact price) but he turned it down as he wasn't really a "car guy", it was alot of money for him at that time of his life and he had also accepted a job in Canada and the car would have been more of a burden than anything else.
Apparantly there was a waiting list of employees wanting to buy the E-Type jags, but nobody cared about the German/Italian cars that were used at research vehicles. Most of those were just left to rust away from the elements.
Yea a few hundered pounds would have been big money back then anyway. Sounds like a dream job though
Wow, that's actually a pretty decent price for that kind of car.
i see the fella with the one in cgy down on elbow dr. in that horrible school zone almost every other weekend cruising during the summer
yeah... I remember Rage2 getting some pics of it a few years ago.Originally posted by t-im

yeah I know of the guy. I visited his garage a couple years ago - he has all sorts of cool stuff - Dino, Lambo (Countach, 400GT), Ferraris, etc. He rallied his gullwing in Austrailia last year!Originally posted by robpark
