    Default Canon 70-200mm f2.8 - Used Price?

I'm looking to pick up a used Canon 70-200/f.28. What have you seen sell for on ebay and photo forums?

I have not looked lately. Have you tried typing in www.ebay.com?
Try calling The Camera Store. They have used ones.

For a fair cond one ( say 7-8/10 ) .. $1200-1300 total if you buy from ebay .. a good clean one, probaby $1300-1400 + tax if buy from local camera stores.

Vistek and Camera store have them all the time, due to people trade in for 70-200IS .. if that is their trade in lens, you can probaby negociate a better price.

I have seen some totally beated up one, very very old .. and still sold for $800-900 ....

If you want the IS one .. don't expect less then $2K for even a used one .. every time I found a used 70-200IS, asking $2100-2200 . when I call .. SOLD

Yeah, I just bid on one! I stopped at $1000usd. I know with the Canon rebate B&H has them new for $1099usd but they are out of stock. I wasn't looking for the IS, the lens without IS is allready streatching the budget.

    Actually!

Are Canadians eligable for the 1x, 2x, 3x rebate special Canon is offering right now?

If so I'm sure we could find three people on this forum looking to purchase 3 eligable canon lenses. The 3x rebate is pretty good. $120usd off 70-200 f/2.8, $150usd off 70-200 f/2.8 IS

Rebate is US only. We miss out, unless you have an amerifriend.

You might also want to check out the older 80-200 f2.8 if you're not looking for the IS. Supposedly sharper than the 70-200's.

Or you can check out the sigma 70-200 2.8 as well. Also very highly regarded and cheaper than the canon.

Get the IS or opt for the cheaper 70-200 F4.

The F2.8 is a lot bigger and alot heavier for 1 extra stop. It is a lot of weight to carry around for an aperture range that you may not use very often.

I use F2.8 alot, and the IS is worth it. Makes a huge difference.

I plan on upgrading before new years.
I can't decide on one of the following:

100-400L IS (good quality glass, IS is wicked, takes 1.4 and 2x TC)(starting at 100mm is not the best)
35-350L (great range, good quality glass, takes 1.4 TC)(no IS to make up for small ap in low light)
    70-200L 2.8 + 1.4TC (Fast and quality glass, versatile package)(shortest focal length)

People have been getting sharp results with the
Sigma 50-500 too, and it's not very expensive.

Fast glass is not super important since I'll be shooting outdoors in the snow most of the time. High speed focusing is important though.

I'm leaning towards the 35-350 since it'd go well with my 17-35mm.

    Sorry for the hijack.

Regarding that canon 1,2,3 lens discount I think anyone can order from B&H and get that deal.

$1099 US from BH .. is after rebate .. unless you buy the grey market one ( no warranty for Canon Canada )

That is the problem for those lens, I went to ebay few time, try to bid on 70-200 F2.8 ( non IS ) price is up to $1000 US!!!

so .. after shipping, handling fee, duty, taxes ... will be $1400 cad! so .. forget it ..

My buddy in LA ordered the IS lens for me, after rebate, plus $700 for air ticket ... still work out same price to buy one in Canada! <-- that will be my 3 days christmas trip ...

If they ship to PO Boxes, and we could use a PO Box to claim the rebate I would be in.

(a new one would be cheaper than a used copy if we could get the 3x rebate)

Would they send rebates to post office boxes?

Lots of rural people don't have mail sent to their street address only thier post office box. Also I have a friend who lives in Manhatten we could have the rebates sent there and he could forward it on to us in Calgary.

you would be better off to have you buddy in Manhatten go down to the store and buy the stuff and send it to you USPS.

Yeah .. that is better idea .. you buddy buy it for you, and send to you .. as a gift .. once your friend got the rebates ( ~2 months ) just give the money to him as helping you out!

I know the US post office is kind of weird .. I used my friend's house address before, but my name ... and those items were returned! since the post office don't see my name in that address ... so .. I have to put everything into my friend's name.....

I don't think PO box will work .. you know .. AMERICAN ..

EDIT: The lenses are not manufactured in the USA so GST and Duty would apply. Even if we marked it as a gift we would have to decair the value to get adaquite shipping insurance thefefore it would be far in excess of the maximum allowable tax free import of gifts (i think $60 or $100).

Now that i think of it he's probably coming back to Calgary to visit his family over Christmas. But that doesn't help me since they are still sold out.
