    Default Logitech Harmony 880 Remotes...

Has anyone used one of these? They look great and work well according the internet information. However before I spend $249 on one I want to know if they are as seemless as they claim.

For example once I have my receiver picked off of the net and loaded can I change things like the surround modes or is more for volume, changing the channel etc?

I'm tired of using five different remotes and I don't have an engineering degree to program macros and codes into an "universal" remote.

All Harmony does is being programmable via your PC. So it make macros and such much easier.

The 880 was $169 @ dell.ca 2 weeks ago for airmiles members. But they've pulled it since. Either stock/pricing problem.

Harmony remotes work great. AFAIK the only remote that remembers the 'state' of each device. for example it remembers which devices are on and then builds a macro on the fly depending on what you want to do next.

They are fully customizable, and if you find a function that isn't already in the DB you can use head-to-head learning.

As you may guess, I'm a fanboy of the harmony remotes.

Harmony remotes make life alot easier. One remote can really replace every remote. Any function you can access on the OEM remote, the Harmony can access as well. If you're unsure, buy it from FS and try it out for a couple weeks. If its not for you, return it.

Have lots of patience setting it up, takes alot of time, and know every model of every electronic you wish to program. other than that its pretty tight.

I have one. Bought it at memoryexpress for 229 about month ago. Works great with my setup. I have an Mac so programing took me 30min. Works like a charm. Great LCD screen. No problems so far.

One button turns on my Motorola HD PVR box then it turns on my Sony Grand Wega then sets up my DENON reciever. All this within few seconds. Great remote. I was looking at the Philips Pronto's but this one is way better since i did not like the touch screen on the Prontos. And the prontos where like 800 canadian.

    Good luck with your purchase.

My 880 just showed up and it's the most painless setup I have ever experienced. The default macro works so well that I don't get to spend much time to tinker with the learning and programming.

Which make me kinda of sad since I don't really get to play with it much when it work so well out of the box...

I picked up the Harmony 520 at memexpress for 89 bucks, Wasnt to bad to get the devices programmed in but the "activties" took some tweaking to get it how I wanted it but it is good now.

    After I used the 880, I'm glad I didn't get the 520.

A lot of custom buttons are accessed via the programmable buttons beside the screen. 520 has 4 while 880 has 8, that's 2 X as much scrolling to get to the key you want.

I really wish they build the USB into the charging dock tho. The extra cable hanging out looks ghetto.

^Not the 880 since Dell isn't carrying them anymore.

But they do have the 659 for $107.

Just wanted to bump this one up.

I just got a new Harmony 628 from costco for $75... worth all the wait and best price in town I guess....
