If you are typically always in major urban areas, you are in the Fido basic footprint. You have access to both 1900 and 850 bands regardless if you have the extended network option. The only time the extended network comes into question is if you use the phone a lot outside of major urban areas or on the fringe areas.

If you ever are in doubt about which network you're on, just dial *#123# and hit send. It'll tell you if you're on the basic or extended network. It's free to use.

so i can technically get charged for using my cell for not noticing if im on rogers network... PRETTY LAME
but do anyone know if your fido phone automatically switches to rogers network or do you have to manually configure it?
My Fido phone has been saying ROGERS (as a network) for the past 5 months or so. I haven't been charged anything extra yet.

Did this $0.25 thing JUST come into effect or something?

Well I used to sell for both rogers and fido. Since rogers purchased fido, the reception has been great. Just have to make sure you don't use ass phones like sony erricsons. Nokia usually works the best. 850 will definitly help. Also, try not to use overseas phones. they tend to suck in Canada b/c of our towers being further apart then in asia. Generally, overseas phones work like ass over here. Some exceptions though.
