Not only possible but very easy.
    step 1: buy switch
step 2: Find the remote power or main power wires for the amp
step 3: Cut on or the other (pref. the remote lead)
step 4: Wire in the switch (prob. want to get it as close to your seat as possible for easy access)

    and.....

Vuala!!!! You can turn em off and on.

Nope. The remote lead comes off the stereo and it has two purposes 1, kick in a power antena if one is there 2, flick a relay in an amp that allows the main power in.

Sooooooo, if you put a switch on the remote lead, the amp will just think that the stereo is turned off.

why? The remote is there to turn the amp on and off anyways. Who wants to splice into say 4gauge wire running from the battery?

but putting it in the power wire creates resistance causeing less power to go to the amp. Just my thought!!!

creates noise on the power line...decreasing sound quality....not to mention you need a more heavy-duty switch on the power line than you would on the remote lead....

put it on the remote lead...that's what it's there for

putting it on the power line would be friggin stupid. a switch built to handle high amps would be huge and anything less would be a huge fire hazard

the switches that you buy at say canadian tire or radio shack are really only built to handle 5-10 amps, while your amplifier sucks 20-30+ amps atleast. The switch will get hot with that much flowing through it, making itself a huge fire hazard, for the same reason you don't put a 20 amp fuse in where a 10 amp fuse is specified. The remote wire however only has .1 amps flowing through it give or take, and a cheap switch will handle that nicely, so do yourself a favour and attach it to the remote wire, which is probably easier than rerouting your power wire anyways.
