Default Mac OS 10.4 Trouble shooting - Stupid Question

I've been trying to turn off the chime on my desktop clock. Every hour, a cuckoo bird comes on and its driving me insane. I haven't been able to find a way to turn it off other than turning off all sound which is annoying when I am listening to music.

I've tried everything including searching the help files on my computer and on the mac website.

When I open the Date & Time menu, the "Announce the time" box is unchecked yet it still chimes on the hour. In the Sound Preferences menu, the "play user interfact effects" is also unchecked.

I'm sure the solution is really easy but I have no idea what it is! your help would be greatly appreciate. Thank you!!

Maybe try setting those options, and ten leave it for an hour, then uncheck them, even though they say there unchecked, there might be a fault somewhere and it is actually turned on, I'm new to the MacOS (Switched and lovin it) but my bro is a pro Apple guy, so I'll ask him later, he should know something about it.

    From Apple Support site:

"Sounds like you have the Chinese Calendar Widget installed. Drove me bananas with the chime and cuckoo on the hour. It may be possible to toggle the chime on/off by clicking on the bell but doesn't work for me. Have now disabled it. If this is the same widget as yours then its name is in Chinese and you'll find it in ~/Library/Widgets. Hope this helps."

    Possibility?

Owning a PC doesn't come close to the experience of owning a Mac. Its one of those things where you are sceptical at first but after 6 months of using a Mac you wonder how you coped with using a PC for so many years. Better hardware & a far superior operating system means that you just do your thing on it and never worry about system crashes, viruses, or compatibility issues. It just works. My G4 is 3 years old but I still don't feel the need to upgrade any time soon.
