Your dad's company will be able to help you - they have to be involved in the whole procedure (Because I believe they need to demonstrate that there is a need for people outside the US to come and work).Originally posted by dub_c

If you qualify, you can get a TN-1 visa under NAFTA. You need to fall under one of a number of categories though. This is a 1 year renewable visa. If you want to stay longer, you can get an H1-B, which is good for 5 years but takes more paperwork and longer to get.
The TN-1 can be obtained at the airport before you get your flight. If you go for the TN-1, you need:
an offer letter from the employer
resume
proof of credentials
USD$50 applciation fee.
With the H1-B, the company might need to demonstrate that there are no qualified applicants in the US. That means they have to advertise for a position, and "not find anyone qualified." This should be handled by the company's HR and lawyer.
You can apply for the green card separately, once you are already in.
Well, I was told it costs over 2k US to obtain citizenship, excluding lawyers and stuff. so basically thats a 2 week check for me.

If citizenship is what you're after that is another thing entirely... Is your Dad a US citizen? If he is, he can sponsor you, and you don't need to qualify for all the other stuff.
ugh this is too much of a headache already. my mom and him are not married yet.

^^^ your parents don't have to be married for him to sponsor you. Unfortunately, the immigration lawyers are never cheap...
If you need to get in for work quickly, the TN-1 is the easiest to get. It is commonly referred to as the "Smile and Wave Visa" for a reason.
alright, the company has said yes for me to come work, but i need the rest of that shit. how abouts do i got to get this stuff. also im not graduated yet, but i will be 19 in 2 months.
