Default ANDRES' Nissan Engine Info Thread

K I know a lot of people think that the argument should
actually be SR20 vs. RB20, but since both these engines offer
many different things, I thought for the Nissan enthusiasts
out there it would be a good discussion. So based on that
with the SR you get great bolt-on power great for drifting and
with the RB25 you get great power but might have to
compromise handling and you might have to fork over a lot
    of money.

I was just wondering what you people
think about these two engines (SR20 vs. RB25).

*edit - now this thread is for all nissan engines

your right, if it was against a rb20 it would be a different story. but i would go with a rb25 if your comparing it to a sr20. but i also like the under dog engines

but a lot of ppl would agree that with the RB25 you might lose handling because of the shear weight of the engine, i think its like 700 and some pounds

Both good but i like displacement, i like torque so RB25 would be my choice of the 2.

    Oh great every time...

But if you had to choose between the sr20 and the rb20 i'd go with the ca18

2GR-FSE!!! Oh wait, were talking about Nissan. Go SR20DET!!!

I would choose SR20DET for time attacking or drifting type application.

If I were to build a Wangan spec or high speed car though I would choose the RB26DET.

CA18DET is a good motor too but it's just too old and chances of finding one with low milage is slim.

And if I want to tow something or low range power, I'd go KA24DE.

I think the engines vary on application.

probably doesn't have any ca18 experience. lol, you have to trade your left nut just to get a water pump.

as for the whole weight issue with the rb25, the only thing is that you would have on hell of a heavy front and a loss ass behind you.

but oh well, go sr if your thinking of anything. cheap parts, reliable and you will have a good resale value afterwords.

    So i think for drifting...
an SR20DET is the best way to go

but for a high-speed straight line car
an RB25DET is a better choice just simple cause of its
    larger displacement..

any of you know any websites that have cars with highly
    tuned RB25's??

You have to consider the price too. The RB25 will cost you a lot more than the SR20.

You need a custom drive shaft (longer one) to run the RB25. That'll be big money already.

But then when you get an RB25 and you go to car meets you can circle the parking lot like a billion times, then park a way from everyone, stand there by yourself and suddenly open your hood and everyone will flock over and go "OMG GUYS ITS A RB25 IN A 240!" and suddenly everyone will gather around you and you can show off your car and brag how much you spent when you could of gotten a SR20 w/ some upgrades.

That was preview of some car meets in California

depends on what u plan on doing with the car... if u want drifting in it, sr is a good option because of the aliminum head and block( lightweight ) 25, would be too heavy... i think so anyways.. but if ur pro at drifting u can drift anything :P 25 i`d say more for drag though

also about parts, if somethin fucked up on either, it would probably be more expensive to fix an rb25 but how easy is it to even get these parts

meh drifting isn't that hard, but look at the weight difference. with the sr20, sure it will be a bit more equal and can make it seem better but with the rb25 with the difference in weight its almost like the rear end will pivot around the front and in all cases seems easier in my eyes. but hey who said difting was hard, you just can't be a little bitch and worry about your baby getting scratched cause all drift cars have scares.

RB everytime. I've driven both and the RB's weight is not an issue. I absolutely love the sound of my RB too!
