Yeah, he had a good career and its about time for him to pack up the bags. No shame in that at all. All good things must eventually come to an end and I certainly enjoyed watching him play.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
I agree, its certainly his time.
If it weren't for all his injuries, I'm sure he could still pot 15-20 a year, but not when he's playing 20 games a year. He even said himself a couple years ago when he came back it was more to draw the fans back, than win another cup(knowing his skills had already diminished). Its not like he unretired thinking he was still the same player that won back to back cups coughMichaelJordancough. Mario would clearly be the second highest point getter if he wasn't forced to retire near the end of his prime. But here's one to one of the classiest and greatest players who ever played the game.
Hell of a player. Sad to seem him go, but it's way overdue..
Yah its very unfortunate that he has to leave, but an irregular heartbeat will do that to a person.
Unfortanuate yes.....but it's not like he didn't have an amazing career.
Now he can focus on more of a managerial role and help the team get better.....when they move to Winnipeg!
Winnipeg Penguins....I mean c'mon it's only fitting!
He was always my favorite player. It would have been nice to see what the man could have done with a healthy body for an entire career. But there will always be people like that (Orr, namely)

You know what, I'm such a ricer. More form than function, oversized exhaust, Japanese engine, and if I put the tailgate down it kind of acts as much like a wing as the picnic table wings the fast and furious guys are bolting to their cars.
now watch everyone try to milk as much money as they can from his autographed merchandise
eg when mark messier retired NHL auction had about 20 of his signed jersey up for bids

they should give them old to the longest consecutive ticket season holders instead of trying to make some quick $$$ just my thoughts...Originally posted by HoisinSauce

I'm not really a big fan of Lemieux, so instantly when I hear this I remember the last time he said goodbye to the game.
The fact is I think he got seriously side-tracked when he became and owner, captain, player, and captain of team Canada. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, maybe he would still be playing if he just focused on keeping himself healthy as a player.
Just to add, I know an irregular heart beat is a somewhat unexplainable injury, but who really knows what effect stress can have on the body?
Congrats to him on a great career, just shows that Gretzkys records are safe forever

well, kinda expected especially since his recent health concerns, but yea he had a great career and it's a good time for him to leave. Too bad I have him in my hockey pool! First Palffy gone now Lemieux!
Man Mario was my favorite player of all time, however it is good to see him hang em' up as obviously it's about time.
Great career, my highligh, as with many others, is his record of 5 goals in 5 different ways in one game.
PP,SH, regular, PS, EN...all in the same game.
I look forward to him as a GM and/or coach in the future.
Great guy, great player, great career
He will always be my favorite player. Sad to see him go. Though I agree its time to pass the torch to someone else... buy who?
Very seldom you see a player who never practices but yet dominate the game like he did. It's sad to see him go. One of the greatest ever.
