Default If you work for FORD, you better drive a FORD

A Dearborn, Michigan Ford plant has made it their policy that workers who wish to park in the permit lot must be driving a Ford or another vehicle made by a Ford subsidiary.

I suppose the current situation Ford is in calls for some drastic measures.

I think it says a lot when your employees aren't buying the products they make. Do they know something the general public doesn't?

I'd still leave my Model A at home and ride a bike to work.

even if you work for a company does not mean you want any of their cars, i know honda workers that have a lexus in their driveway :P so it dosn't surprise me that ford employees don't drive fords, it usualy doesn't mean anything, just that their employees don't exactly like ford, and perfer to drive another brand of car.

for example, a mercedes dealer driving a porche. a toyota dealer driving a nissan, a honda dealer driving a bmw. it might just be the fact that most of their cars are butt ugly IMO.

At FCL (The warehouse side of co-op) You were given an amount that you had to spend at co-op each year based on the amount of people in your family. If you did not spend enough cash you could get into trouble.

I would think this falls under under an anti-competition clause. That's kind of weird.

Wow, things must be pretty bad at Ford if they're implementing policies like this.

Well, its like lots of clothing stores.... you gotta wear their products....

Makes sense to me, and I doubt many of you would quit a cushy union job like at Ford....

Difference - a shirt costs under $100, and a vehicle is probably going to be $20k+.

It was only a matter of time until the patriotic ideal of owning a Ford or GM vehicle wore off and people chose to drive better quality imports at the same price, regardless of what flag it flew under. Brand loyalty will only take you so far. Lots of imports are being built here as well...these are jobs being created for North Americans.

If you want to see the attitude of Ford, look up the crankshaft fix for defective Ford GT cranks.

If they go tits up, they can blame themselves.

The difference being that retail clothing stores require them to wear their products while they are working. Any other time, they can wear whatever they want. An automobile is highly restrictive. If you want, you can argue that they are driving the Ford to work. But then it brings up frosty's point.

thats such bullshit, i was a manager of a kitchen for a while and theres one thing i learned, if you want to keep your employees happy you dont do stupid shit that has no real effect. you have to give a little to keep your people happy. all this does is hurt moral within ford, people are gonna get pissed that they have to trudge to work everyday because ford doesnt pay them enough to buy their own cars and fix them.

my father showed me a news report a while back about a ford plant and it had a pic of the plant with a chevy pickup out front, pretty damn sweet but i bet that has something to do with this.

Too bad there wasn't some kind of promotion or sponsorship package that Ford is offering to their employees.

I'm sure the ford employees would be happy to see that they can get no interest payrole deducted car loans.

Wonder if they can drive Mazdas and Volvos.

There's another parking lot across the street they can park in, it's just the main lot. And only 15% are not Fords anyway.

But if there's pictures of the plant with Chevy trucks out front, that's a problem.

Just occur to me that this rule probably only applies to office staff. Factory staff probably all drive Fords already. I can't envision a non-Ford will survive the day in a parking lot full of UAW workers.
