Any Toshiba Ive had has always died a premature and extreme death - mobo, screen, and always about a month after the 1 year warranty is up

I dont know anymore, what to recommend. If it breaks its a pain in the ass regardless of brand. I have a toughbook now and love it, before i had a few POS toshibas, and before that i had a POS HP...

I usually have no problem getting local service for most brands, except for Acer which I had to sent to Ontario but still only took a little over a week.

I would wait on a MAC... when the new intel chips come the current models prices will droooop. I had a iBook but sold it already in anticipation of the intel's

had both, but have kept the presario its a little better. HP and Compaq are the same company and use all the same parts and materials so your safe either way with the quality. Buy them both try each one out and return with one you dont want for full cash return

I just got that livestrong edition HP one.
It's a pretty powerful computer and has better stats than most of the other ones at best buy for the same price.
I like it, it's quick and reliable so far...it comes with a LOT of crappy software though.
I uninstalled EVERYTHING and installed all of my own software.

Perhaps a while back, but their latest notebooks are quite good for the money. Quality is good, go and read online reviews. Besides, it's made by Quanta now, which also make notebooks for Dell, HP, Acer, and other brands.

HP has a really nice "dv" model line which is portable and powerful with a host of features. Although the current line was just discontinued, meaning clearence prices on the remaining ones still in stores, or newer technology today if you choose to get the newer models.
Dell is nice a cheap if you dont mind paying shipping, Acer is the same as Dell without shipping (Memory Express and Staples to name a few), and Apple... well if you like Apple then thats your only choice.
Keep in mind if you dont mind waiting awhile new tech is coming out very soon. The new dual core centrinos are blazing fast, and relativly cheap. Centrino as it stands right now is the best laptop CPU out there. Longer battery life, with out scraficing power, and intertergrated chipset wireless internet. Centrino based laptops also tend to be in smaller designs making it light which means more portable.
Also to statements raised about sending it away... I work at Staples and when you buy a laptop there you have the option of an extended service plan. It covers pretty much anything, even the battery!
It doesnt cost alot... $169.99 to extend a laptop under $2000 for 2 extra years ontop of the manufacturors warrenty. So essentially 3 years your covered for.

I said alot, hope it helped.
Anyone has any info on when while the dual core technology will be introduced? Perhaps an estimate too on how much longer it'll take for them to mark the price under $1500 range?
