    $500US?....
Well, that might have to wait then. I was expecting ~$200....
Then again, I was thinking about getting a used one.

Anyhoo, looks cool. I just noticed it was wound past 5k. I don't know about yours, but my PD has a red line of ~4500RPM.

Now I guess I have to steer my post back on topic

The Golf will hold it's resale value very well. I am presently leasing mine, 4 year lease and the buyout is ~$14k (new was ~$31k by the time I had the keys in my hand). That said, I am almost positive I will be able to sell it for more than the buyout on the lease (at present, 4-year old 100,000-120,000km Golf TDI's are going for $16k), and with how much I drive it, it is actually cheaper to make lease payments and carry full coverage on a brand new vehicle every month than it was to pay for gas and PLPD/comp insurance for my 951. Not kidding. So, the car saves me money every month, keeps the winter wear off of my 951, and will make me money in the end! So far it sounds like a no brainer to me.

Perhaps I'm a little bit biased, but I am a strong believer that the Golf is the best car from the list you posted.
If you have a little more cash to spend, get a jetta wagon. They hold their value a little better than the golf will, and get the same mileage.

haha, I can and will be driving up to 10,000km a month, if I keep the car for 10 years that's 1,200,000kms!!
