Top Gun
hahhaa, never seen that before...hahaha
Supposedly, powdercoating when done improperly (too hot) will weaken your wheels. Might want to make sure the place knows what they are doing. Too much heat breaks down the bonds in the wheel, yadda yadda.

I just had mine done at Bearcoat. They spent a lot of time with me, and were very professional and quick.
I was told they heat them to 350 or 400F.
where is bearcoat???
4404-10 St NE, across McKnight from Airport.
Talk to Todd- good guy.
$45/wheel and they look like a million dollars.
Bigboom is also having his wheels done there- can't waitto see how they turned out.
The Type-S gunmetal coloured rims come factory powdercoated, so far no chips or anything. As far as where to get them done I don't really know in Calgary.
What color are you doing them?
2002 Milano Red RSX-S w/ some stuff
Type S rims on the RSX are not power coated.. it's only paint and Yes they do chip easily..
I think Alberta Wheel does that as well
AB Wheel only PAINTS not powdercoatsOriginally posted by BigBearWest

They don't chip easily though, for me anyway... I drive on gravel roads to get to my yard and such.

Bear powdercoats for $45/rim.(16")
Even with a SEVERE sandblasting, mine ran $320 for blasting/paint.
Most should be cheaper, as I had many, many, many layers of paint on my poor rims to blast off.
They did a terrific job, were very prompt and friendly.
Hey audio, how come you had many layers of paint on ur rims?? And is $320 for all 4 of ur rims to get done??
I uh, painted my rims last year by myself.
So on top of the base and colour coats the rims came with from the factory (I sanded off the clearcoat), they had 3x red-oxide primer, 3x colour [metallic dark bronze] and 5x clearcoat.
(or maybe it was 5x colour, and 3x clear- whatever)
They looked tight, except I'd never done that before, and didn't know not to wet=sand after the last primer coat, so I had a few chips where the paint didn't adhere as well.
I would have done it myself again, but it's a HUMONGOUS PITA, and not that much cheaper than powdercoating, if you want to use a custom colour, at $16/can.
Yep-$320 for all blasting, and powdercoating 4-16" rims.(+tax)
cuz audio is a dumbass who has too much time on his hands...jk
now if i could only convince him to make me a set of his fibreglass splitters.
im getting my rims back tommorow from bearcoat ill let you guys know exact pricing and such...althought my 17" were quoted at about 287 because my sandblasting is cheapers than audios
I screwed up the prices that I posted for Calgary Powder Coatings.
Its $50 a rim if thier already sandblasted, $75 otherwise. all sizes.
related question...
i just polished the lip of my rims to a nice chrome look. what should i use to protect them now? is their a certain type of clear coat that i should cover them with? price? where to buy?
thanks.

Can you describe what you mean by the wet-sanding? and how do I do it?Originally posted by audio1der

I'm about to paint my rims the next time it gets warmer.
