Dumbbell Weights - Where to buy??

Hey people, am about to invest in some dumb bells for at home. Was wondering if anyone knows of a good place in town to get some quality weights at reasonable prices?

and also if you have weights at home, what kind? where from? and how much?

Thanks guys Looking for something for my girlfriend and I as we don't always have the time to get to the gym but would enjoy being able to get some working out done at home.

i got some from walmart, i did alot of shopping around first and walmart had them for like bucks cheaper(per dumbell) than all other places and they were the exact same ones....grey with no signature.

and obviously you shouldnt bother gettin name brand ones cause it just a hunk of metal(or iron) or whatever.

I was kind of thinking of those Powerblock ones where its 18 different weights in one unit but what do people think of those prices. Never really bought any equipment before so i'm not overly sure on price comparison.

I think you can et something silar to the powerblock dumbells at costco, expensive but you best bet for space savings ect.

Yeah well my girlfriend only wants lower weights right now, but i figure that if we are getting something it might as well add up to something i can use. So that Powerblock stuff gives me a good weight range to work with. I'm a little concerned with getting something that will break quickly so am wondering if anyone has experience with any of this stuff breaking.

fixed dumbells are awesome. I have 5s, 10s, 12s, 15s, 20s, 25s, 30s, and 35s.(this works for me, but some people might want much larger dumbbells)

power blocks have 2 main advantages: they don't take up a lot of space, and even though they cost alot - it is still alot cheaper than buying a full set of fixed dumbells. Can you imagine a fixed dumbell set that goes up to maybe 110 lbs? thats alot of steel at perhaps $1 per pound

Both of the above choices can be expensive!

Here's a compromise that I think works well:
1 - buy a basic fiixed dumbbell set for your gf (maybe $30) ie 2x1lbs, 2x5lbs, 2x10lbs. Get the pretty ones that are pink so she likes them.

2 - Maybe buy some 15s, 20s, 25s for you

3- buy yourself a basic 110 pound free weight set (that comes with the spin lock dumbells)( maybe $80). Use this as a substitute for all large dumbbells.

Saw a nice set at Costco today.. Can't remember how much though.

I bought fixed ones, but the weights were really cheap also.
This was at Fitness Depot up by 12st ne and about 40th ave.
Fixed ones are less than a buck a pound, I think the weights are about .50/lb.

Cool was thinking of checking out the Fitness Depot up at crow and nose. How are the fitness depots prices.

I'd get a really good pair of spinlock handles, and loose plates. I got 2 pairs, one small and then a custom larger pair. Haha I press 140's tho, so maybe u only need one pair.

oh and fitness depot has good prices btw. they will also order you stuff in. Get a really good adjustable bench with incline.

I buy all my weight plates and that kind of stuff at Canadian Tire. Bottom line is that it's a chunk of iron, it's not going to be any better at one place or another.
