Power To The Pavement
June 2nd, 2007
Medicine Hat (Very Very Hot!)
Class: REAL STREET
Finished: 2nd Place
Pro Tree (Some of my RT are pretty good IMO)
Best was 0.099 on Pro Tree which is not too bad.
Qualifying Rounds:
Elimination Rounds:
Story: Slowest time was on the Final Elimination. I was expecting to lose, as the other competitor was running 11.55 fairly consistently. My only hope was to beat him at the tree, (success) and have a great run...failure. (I missed fourth and ran my slowest time) However, congrats to him. My best run of the day would not have beaten him with the run he had. I believe his run was the quickest he ran that day. (AFAIK)

New personal best for the SRT-4.
This is a non-nitrous pass, and it's the quickest my SRT-4 has ever done on race fuel alone. 11.67 @ 121.
This happened on July 12th, 2008. Massive failure and complete block destruction due to (I believe) a failed rod bolt, which caused the end cap to come off and then all hell broke loose. Car was still running (idling) after the failure when I stopped.
Here are some pictures from that wonderfully fabulous day.
The oil slick from where it started to where I stopped the car.
Pieces I found on the road as I walked back down the oil spill.
Old block getting pulled out of the car in my garage.
Here is the old block, after it was removed from the SRT-4. It had exit holes on the back and front of the block. The parts that exited destroyed the alternator bracket (on the back) and the AC bracket (on the front).
A crowbar goes nicely through the motor.

The exit wound from the bottom, showing the oil pan having a 10 inch wide broken area.
The hole is about 9 inches tall, all the way through the oil pan and then several inches up in to the block as well.
There is a small circular hole at the back of the block. No photo here. But it looks to me like this is where the wrist pin exited. The pin fits through the hole perfectly, so it seems logical.
Just some more pictures of the carnage.
This is a picture of the block, untouched, after the head was removed. I had bought a complete used longblock, but decided I wanted to disassemble the shortblock before I junked it.
The one piston was able to move freely after the rod broke, so the crank will have bashed it around until it pushed it up high enough that it could no longer hit it.
When I took the rod caps off of the remaining 3 rods, everything looked in pristine condition. Bearings looked so good you'd want to use them again. Nothing was pounded.
So, basically just pulled off all the parts from my old block - brackets, power steering, ac, etc. Of course took off my intake manifold, exhaust manifold, downpipe, o2 and turbo. All that stuff got moved to the replacement block.
The replacement block came from a wrecker in Alberta. The motor was a 2.4L Turbo like the original, except it came out of a PT Cruiser. Sold the stock turbo, exhaust manifold, fuel rail and injectors...
Here is the engine/tranny getting put back in to the car - in my garage.
Also bought a new clutch, same as the one that was in the car before - it was looking quite worn and I figured this was a good time to do it.
Clutchmasters FX400 4-puck clutch. This thing took an absolute beating and never slipped. Beautiful clutch and I am hopeful to get the same kind of performance out of the new one.
Took the car out to the Drag Strip, only because I hadn't really dragged the car hard since replacing the motor. I wanted to make sure everything was OK, and that High Octane Mode worked good.
I didn't go out to any Secret Street events in Calgary this year, so this was my first time out.
First pass was used just as a shake down to set tire pressures, etc. Had a little mishap with gears and it was not perfect.
Second pass was good, did not WOT shift 1-2.
Third pass just adjusted the tire pressure a little bit lower and nailed my WOT's 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 all wonderful. Very clean pass. The car pulled hard all the way and I believe that an 11.79 is the quickest I have ever run at Race City in Calgary on turbo only. So, the new motor works.
Here are the slips.
Edmonton Street Car Shootout

Took the SRT-4 out to Edmonton to participate in the Street Car Shootout on October 4th, 2008 at Castrol Raceway. Just a little extra test for the replacement engine, and also because I really wanted to compete in something this year...

Didn't do anything amazing, but managed to be lucky at the right time (or have others be unlucky! LOL) and ended up winning the class.
Here are the timeslips.

Took the SRT-4 out to Medicine Hat to participate in the Street Car Shootout, Power 2 The Pavement, on June 20th, 2009.
Have not had any practice since October 2008 really, other than a quick test session at Race City on June 19th, 2009. It really showed.
Timeslips to follow once I scan them all. Here is my first run and my best run of the day.
Bonus for having fun and winning:

IF YOU RACE YOU NEED TO GET OUT AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT! AWESOME JOB DONE BY SPONSORS, ORGANIZERS AND TRACK WORKERS!
Best Moments of the event, for me:
1. Winning the Real Street final race by just 0.03x seconds.
2. Putting a new 505hp Corvette to absolute shame on the 1/4.
3. Watching the NA Techmotion Mustang go 9.790!!!!

Someone asked me about my axle breaking, which happened at an event a couple years ago before I upgraded to DSS Axles. I couldn't remember where exactly it broke, but I found the pictures I took and am posting them FYI.
Stupid cheap axle.
I cut the boot open, and this is what it looked like inside. I wiped the grease off the one end...obviously...
Power To The Pavement
June 5th, 2010
Medicine Hat
Class: REAL STREET
Result: 1st
Have not raced for 9 months. This Neon has fubared Synchros from all the gear slamming I've done with it over the years. No more WOT shifting.
Still pulled out a victory in Real Street by 0.09 seconds in the final race. Very close one! Had fun. Great event by the organizers, as usual - so definitely a worthy event to be supporting. If you like heads up racing, this is the one not to miss. See you there in 2011.
Bonus for having fun and winning:

So near the end of Summer 2011, I replaced the transmission. The transmission that was in the car works just fine on the street. Under normal driving conditions, it works and no one would really notice any problems. However, when under extreme load and WOT shifting, it would never ever make the 2 to 3 shift. I blame worn synchros from all the gear slamming.
So in went another transmission with just 40k on it. This transmission works great, and even though I don't race the car any more, I'm happy knowing I could!
At this same time, I threw in a Southbend Stage 5 Clutch. The combo works very well. In October of 2011, I parked the Dodge for the Winter.
