    Default 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution starting

Hey Ok I have a question and I know alot of people dont have an Evo and some say they are illegal in Canada but the tech. guy who talked to me when I bought this car said that if you start the car you have to drive it for a mile before shutting it off. Every time. Has anyone else heard that or is it not true. Thanks

    Default Hety

He said that even if you have to pull it out of your garage then you should drive for a mile the turbo kicks in at 2800 rpm so the turbo would not even kick in so its not hot yet and does not need cooling

Probably referring to warming it up before you start boosting and letting the car idle for 30 seconds before you shut if off to prolong the life of the turbo.

The only reason I can see for that is to heat up your exhaust system enough so that you don't end up with condensation in it leading to early rusting.

What? I never heard that one b4...

It's good practice to warm up your engine and cool off the engine before and after you drive. It's not that great to bag on the car if there is little to no oil flowing in the heads.

I never get into boost until my engine is warm and that is probably about 3-4miles and I always take it easy for the last mile or two goign to my house...

There is a reason turbo timers were invented too

I've heard various reasons for this.. best one I know of is oil contamination. Contaminents enter the engine oil during startup when idle enrichment and piston ring blowby is at its highest. Warming up the motor to operating temperatures allows the contaminents to evaporate and be recirculated back into the engine for combustion (by way of PCV valve most likely). Oil contamination is the worst thing for turbocharged vehicles, it shortens bearing and turbo life greatly.
