i'm a snowboarding n00b too. i didn't have that much $$ to blow.. but i got this board for $50 brand new.

    bindings for 100.
    http://209.17.174.18/bindings.asp?binding=MX40M

    boots for 50 (orig 140)
    gloves 30
goggles 20 (cheap ebay ones... i'll save up for spy or smith eventually)

    total damages: $250

nothing fancy... but its definitely good enuf for my skill level right now, and i'm not afraid to scratch it up either.

Edit: plus a helmet for $30... so 280 total.

Cus you will show up at the hill next time, which will be your second time boarding, decked out in $800 worth of gear. Not that there is anything wrong with that however.

I disagree. I fell in love with snowboarding the first time I went, and I got the hang of it extremely quickly. Sure, if I go once or twice a year, and I don't use the gear, Im a poser, but when I'll be going to Bannf/Jasper 2-3 times a month, I'm putting it to good use, how is that true?

Why would I, in my situation, buy cheap stuff? I'm going to be using this alot, and I have the money to spend, why wouldn't I?

    I disagree.

Why would a guy buy cheap shit with zero resale value that would lessen his enjoyment of the activity? I think he's made a good decision to buy quality gear that he intends to use for a long time. I did the same thing, and I don't regret it for a second.

Sorry but you're classified as a moron. I suppose you fell right out of the womb onto a board at the "Top Of The World" lift and it was just second nature to ride down???

At least he's interested in actually riding. You are probably one of the guys who stands at the bottom area of the hill and judges everyone who comes down by them.

As for the expensive equipment, it's a good decision if (a) you can afford it and (b) you intend to use. If you buy cheap stuff this year and then upgrade next year, you'll end up paying for what the top line equipment would have costed anyway. Good decision IMO.

I picked up a new setup a few weekends back when the Source was having their big sale.

Got a Ride Yukon, Ride SPi bindings and Forum Boa boots for $800 taxes in.

why buy the crappy stuff if you're planning on doing something for awhile
go and get the good stuff and save money in the end

i went out and bought about that amount on my snowboard gear 6 years ago and havent regreted it at all
